Ok, now from what I recall I was told the service intervals are 12,000 miles or 2 years. Now from what I've seen on here some people have beem told the same mileage but yearly.

Regardless, I think 2 years is too long so I'll be going with a 12 month interval, even though mileage will be well below 6k let alone 12k. The Mrs car will be around 6-7k.

My main question is, has anyone noticed any oil useage from their car? We checked the oil, for the first time in a couple of months  and it's dropped below the top marker.

Is this oil consumption normal? I know some engines do use oil and others don't so what about the 133 lump?

I've been told the 133 does use a fair amount of oil, but regular checks on mine has seen no consumption in the 3600 miles I've done so far :) I will be changing mine around 6000 miles anyway so probably next month

I've only done between 1000 & 1500 miles so far, but not noticed any oil use when I've checked.

I've recently had my 1st service and the oil levels had hardly budged since new... that was 10 months/12.3k miles (ish).

The newer Twingos (possibly all Renaults) are at 2 years/12.5k miles not 1 year/12k miles. I think the first mk2's were at the 1 year service intervals. Should all be listed in your manual/service booklet to determine which.

Personally I would change the oil yearly at the very least and with the amount of miles mine done in a short space of time I really should have had it changed sooner (possibly a first change at 6k and the first service when I did). Still, it's been fine and hasn't missed a beat!

I'm suprised alex, that you don't check the oil whenver you clean the car! I always make a point of checking the oil on every car I detail, and top up other fluids as necessary. It's shocking how many I've seen that have below min oil, empty washer fluid and hardly any coolant (and the coolant they do have being years old)

To be honest mate I check the oil in my own motors more frequently but I will admit to being a little less thorough with the Mrs car. She does check these things but not as often as I'd like and afterall it is her car lol.

That said, because my cars Twingo doesn't move for up to a month at a time and the Megane up to 4 months, checking the oil when I'm using them is more the habit I'm in! Just that using them isn't very often.

It is surprising how people just don't look under their bonnet for months, if not years at a time. I suppose it's the mentality that the dealers put people in. They make service intervals longer, encouraging the mentality that you just don't need to worry about looking under the bonnet in between services.

Out of interest, I'm wondering if the induction kit would effect oil consumption?

Coming from owning a Alfa that did 1L every 1000 miles....

...The twingo is very easy on oil use

I have done about 1200 miles and havent noticed it using any.

I've done over 2000 miles in mine and checked oil 2 weeks ago and (despite the crappy oilstick) was still midway so the free oil pack remains velcro'd in the boot

!

A book that came with mine says 'except Renaultsport' which it gives at 12.5k or 12months

Ive serviced mine every 4k miles - so cant really comment on oil usage but in them 4k mile a service it aint used a drop . im up to 13k miles now

I wouldn't listen to them if they try and deter you as I remember going to get my Clio 172 serviced after a year (7k on the clock) and they tried to tell me it was 2 years. Muppets!

Mines done 21000 now and I check the oil most weeks, never ever budged on my car, always stayed the same.

I've had the oil changed at 9k & 20k on my car so far, though once it's out of warranty I'll do it every 6k as I've done with my other cars.

I can't help but think that 12k is just a little too far - 11k after my car had it's last service it was running a little bit... 'coarse' for want of a better word, but having been stung by Renaults warranties before the car is sticking to the service schedule until the end of it's warranty.

Oil/oil filter change every 6months/6k, full (including sparkies/filters) service every year or 12k. Whatever comes sooner.

You can do the oil yourself, very, very easy to do and you won't void your warranty if you use Renault 'Spec' oil :)

Mines being done next month (as it'll hit 6000 miles) and the oil being sent off for analysis. At this point not important, but it's free. Mate of mine sorted me out, not really sure how it works uet but you send off a sample and they send you back pages of data of analysis and draw your attention to the bits they think are important. WIll be nice to compare it every 6000 miles and see how it's getting on.

That sounds really cool, its like getting a proper analysis of how the engine works and runs. I would love that to be done on my car, but i would be a little scared with the outcome.

Yeah when my mate told me about it I was interested straight away. It's direct f1 technology and thinking being applied to the real world! They can tell if certain parts are being worn for instance, by what metals they detect in the oil. ANd can advise on how best to treat the car and what servicing thy feel might be necessary i understand. I've got 2 free goes with it, not sure how much they charge after that. I'll find out more if people are interested
