Woke up this morning and thought about how my life is very boring. working 9:00-5:30 at a fishing tackle and gun store 5 days a week then doing voluntary work in my spare time. I don't do anything amazing anymore
Decided there and then to go skydiving...becuase im **** scared of hights and falls....thought i should tackle it.
Has anybody here been skydiving, anything i should know before i go?
Bricking it! :|

Tandem skydive jump or going parachute jumping.

When in the RAF, I did a few static line parachute jumps which was quite good. Started doing dummy pulls, where your simulating throwing the drogue shoot. Never actualy went freefall :( Jumping out of an airworthy aircraft at 3000 feet is a bit of a rush :)

I considered doing one until why do I want to through myself out of a perfectly good aircraft like Neil said. There are freefall simulators to get an idea of how it will feel with that much wind in your face to get a feel for it. I know xscape in mk has one but dunno about anywhere else sorry

It's a 15,000 ft tandem skydive with 40 seconds freefall (100-120mph)

Heard about the simulators, quite pricey though! Might just throw myself in and see how it goes on the tandem dive

Good lad. A couple of year back id of done it in a heart beat, probably stupidly, neil's clearly the man to chat too. Would still love to now but the family man pretence kicks in..... At least that's the excuse

I got a freefall day offered by my mom (to my brother and myself, but she said she´s coming along) for this summer, as birthday present.

We´re supposed to do simulations first, then 6 jumps during the afternoon, in tandem first and then solo (apparently they have a remote trigger for the parachutes which allows them to let you jump alone), so looking forward to it, the rush and everything, but quite scared of heights too so not really looking forward to it at the same time :)

if you want a real rush, book an AFF course. Some basic ground work for the landing and how the chute works, followed by jumping out of the plane and learning on the way down with two jump instructors.

Otherwise its probably 6-8 static line parachute jumps from 3000ft, before going for longer and longer freefall delays from highet altitudes. Not all people can get the hang of freefall. A friend got up to about 6 seconds but could not get a stable position and couldn't progress to propper freefall

Tandem is probably the easiest way if you just want one or two freefall jumps.

Nearly all chutes have auto deployment which triggers the chute if you pass a certain height at a certain speed. I can't remember what though

Tandem seems the cheapest, easiest way for me to give it a go, if i really like it, then i might spend more!
Im bricking it but really excited, just hope i don't freak out at the last minute, because i know once i commit to the jump, i'll love it! If my mother can do it, im sure i can!
Full AFF course - £1400
Lvl 1 AFF Course - £375
Tandem Dive - £230

booked in, tomorrow morning, 8:30am Cark Airfield, Grange-over-sands in cumbria.
I am bricking it! And it's all going to be on DVD!

cool. Less time to make a mountain out of a mole hill from your fears.

A tandem pilot needs loads of jumps before they can take passengers. The rigs aren't sport rigs, so they are as safe as can be.

Just sit back, follow the instructions and enjoy the ride.

Haha, that's the plan, can't imagine myself waiting in suspense for months, just called up and asked to do it ASAP.
Just going to go and hope for the best!

Whilst at work the other day, well I say work.. I turned up and did absolutely nothing cause I was jet lagged.. So I was hiding in a tank playing games on my phone. What I didn't realise it I had missed a meeting to see who wanted to go fast lining out of a helicopter in a few weeks. In the army we have a saying, "why jump out of things that work" hence why we didn't joing the RAF or got Para'. Turns out no one I worked with wanted to do it, there for I got my name put down without even agreeing to it, so looks like I'm doing that fairly soon. Safe to say I'm bricking that more than if I was sky diving.
I wish you good luck for doing it, hope you enjoy it! Il keep you updated on my little adventure out.

Haha Morgan. Well and truly stitched up.

Nice one Moomin, glad you enjoyed it. I bet it felt like a long climb up to 15k

Long and cold climb, door kept opening so people could jump out at different altitudes. Doing different tests or something. Then the moment came and i wasn't as bad, as i knew there was no going back xD

Just watched the vid as I couldn't play them whilst away.

Good footage and a nice controled landing, unlike my last jump which left me with about 8ft left to go and do a proper PLF after flairing way too early. Still being pished from the night before isn't recomended :?
