Hi everyone! Just wondering i have noticed that my steering wheel is clicking when i turn it and i can feel a little knock through it also when it clicks. Looking at loads of forums on this, it sounds like my steering rack has gone. Just wondering how much am i looking at to get this fixed?
Cheers!

Hello mate I had exactly the same thing with my 133. Had the steering rack replaced under warranty but the problem was still there so I took it back and ended up being a loose retaining bolt in the the steering Column.

Cheers! Hopefully it may just be that but just want to know roughly how much a replacement rack will cost. Its ran out of warranty 1 month ago!

Yeah sorry I can't provide you with a price as mine was free for me thank god! Would have been slightly peed off if I had paid all that money when it didn't even need doing! Oh that's unlucky mine was just before my warranty was up! Someone on here should be able to tell you a price though im sure.

for the steering column or rack alone in the price of parts, you're looking at a good 300-350 pounds and if it's the steering rack you're looking at around 4 hours labour and 2-3 hours for the column. if you get this done at a renault dealership, that's 350 + (4x80).

my advice would be to go to a trusted local independant garage, and have their verdict. again as liam says it could be something as simple as needing greased or a loose retainer nut. this also isn't a specialist job, so unless you are still in warranty then i wouldn't recommend that you go down the renault route althought the part will have to be sourced through renault unfortunately!

Cheers guys! Hopefully it wont end up being the full steering rack but its in the garage tomorrow so i will find out the damage then!

bet you a fiver it'll be the cv joints. renault just wouldn't tell you that and will tell you it's the rack itself :)

Just had it plugged in and it says it has a power steering fault with no error code which means its mechanical so they are checking it out tomorrow. Luckily i wont be paying for it as i have kicked off with the dealers so hoping it will be a quick fix!

will be the bearing seat where the steering column mounts onto the EPAS motor (electronic power assisted steering), it can suffer really bad wear because the bearing isn't the strongest of materials but hey ho the good news is that the column can be replace in 2 sections so it won't be a full column! mines is beginning to creek, but it doesn't bother me really. not bad for the first thing to go wrong on a 6 year old car i'd say :D

Its also in the garage because it miss fires all the time and just randomly cuts out! Not bad for a car that i have had for 3 months! Haha
