sounds like the locking latch has went shot, or the upper side of the steering rack... i don't want to be the bearer of bad news though mate! that's quite a strange one. are you out of warranty?

yeeesss...... gonna cost me a fortune to replace then I take it?? Its happened for quite a while I just haven't wanted to admit it....

it's only going to cost a fortune if you take it to a renault dealership aye .... but you know i'll have to castrate you if you go to renault! best thing to do will be to take it to a garage that you already trust for a proper diagnosis, that way it'll be much much cheaper. shouldn't cost too much though, and it could very well be the inner steering arm. but it does sound like it's protruding from behind the steering wheel on the top half of the column.

you can use my cliosport login details to contact adam @ renault wolverhampton to get a discount on the original renault item posted if you wish mate? you might be able to get steering rack sections from aftermarket companies, wouldn't go with OE unless you really need to. you won't need to replace the entire rack, just the top linkage by the looks of it

hahaha, finding a good garage in my area is like trying to find a needle in a haystack, everyone tries to mug me off..... Ill give it a go though! I can properly feel the click through the wheel if that makes any difference? it makes me cringe every time I steer....

here is the price for the steering rack, dialogys is playing up when trying to get into the steering column though!

I had someone look at it quickly before and they said it might the the steering column extension? also does that say £350?? I cant really see it

aye man 350 for the steering rack, so with the column it's going to be the same sort of area price wise perhaps a little cheaper, my bet is that it's going to be the column extension too like i said it sounds as if it's directly below the steering wheel itself so it will be a shot joint

linked that to you so you'd get a rough idea of price! nothing worse than waiting to hear a price and you have no idea what to expect

Ah fair man thank you! If it's just beneath the steering wheel would it be relatively easy to replace? Or will it be wheels etc off?? I think I may know someone who could do it for me for cheap if it's reasonably straight forward

it's reasonably straight forward mate yeah. you got a copy of the twingo rs workshop manual that i've linked to a few folk? you'll find it in there mate incase you or your mate get stuck. it's easy, remove the steering wheel and steering column cowling ..... i think you get the idea of it no wheels can stay on mate!

did you ever find out what this was? mine does the same but no were near as bad as yours! its just a soft clicking noise when I turn the wheel

9 x out of 10 it's the nut being loose which holds the steering wheel on to the upper steering column. but renault won't tell you that, why would they when they can charge you 500+ for a new column and whatnot?


again i didn't tell you that though
