Just went for a drive to see what my potential new commute would be like

At the moment my commute is 15miles each way...
New commute would be 46 miles each way... (so alot more)

Just did the trip and the twingo averaged 40mpg (drove very sensible) On the fuel bar scale the 1st bar went after 65miles and the 2nd dropped on 90.5miles
I usually use a whole tank a week

Im trying to work out if the twingo is ok to keep with the new commute or whether i will sell and buy a diesel. What are your thoughts?

(new commute is dependent on a new job... the interview i have soon)

They say you need to be doing 14k+ to make it worth it in terms of extra cost buying the dark stuff and the extra cost of a derv car in the first place.

The other side of it is if you would enjoy a diseasel, I swapped a remapped 1.9 dci megane for my twingo, so glad I did, the megane was shockingly quick but **** itself when it came to a corner, due to the big lump up front.

get a motorbike, best I can average in the 133 is 40-45mpg driving like a granny

just been out on my zx6r all morning, filled the fuel to the brim and reset the trip to zero. after 101 miles of riding not like a granny ;) on mostly A roads couple of B roads and a some dual carraigeway, ( regularly saw banned mph, using 3rd, 4th gear a lot not just sticking it in 6th ). I stopped for more fuel and could only put 9 litres in, so just worked it out online 101 miles, 9 litres is 51.02 mpg

I'd be very inclined to consider a diesel looking at the mileage you'll be covering.

Without personal mileage you'll be doing over 20k a year. Although the Twingo isn't actually uneconomical in comparison, if you drove a diesel sensibly on a commute 60mpg would be achievable. Also the Twingo isn't a car I'd want to sit in for lenghty periods of time but then again that's personal preference. :)

I use the Twingo for a long commute. I look a it in the way of if I'm doing something boring then may as well do it in a car I enjoy. If u dont need to worry about fuel costs then keep the Twingo. The only thing is it will devalue quickly with high mileage on it.

That's what concerns me....
1) the fuel cost
2) they are already hard enough to sell..let alone with high mileage

How about a megane RS dci 175. Keeps in the RS fold, gains diesel efficiency ;)

true..

I really don't want to part with my twingo.. but needs must i guess.

Rob have you thought for running two cars. A work horse for clocking up the miles, lobbing in dodgy car parks etc, and keep the twingo for the weekend?

No way i could afford to run two cars :(

I have thought about it..but i just couldn't make it work + slowly start saving for a house deposit/money to move out with.

Nothing wrong with running a workhorse like a 306 not had a single problem in 3 years of owning it and I've do e 40k in it. Then I use Twingo weekends . Works for me and saves racking up the miles in it

Don't do it. Blind people will think you are driving a breadvan.

Flunk the interview. Turn up late. Turn up in women's clothing. Tell the interviewer you've been sh@gging his daughter. Or his son. But DON'T buy a diesel...

Lol.

Iv had a few in my time, I always get rid of them for the same reason, dull to drive, my last one would of out paced a meg gt diseasel, to get a good mpg you had to drive like a tart, ( I averaged 39mpg) and doing so I could feel my hair turning grey and hips brittle.

I have no idea were I am going with that lot but the point is after getting rid of my third derv, I won't have another unless I have to, I'd rather spend more and enjoy driving. Keep the twingo, just for the moment you get to nail it on a free road.

Anyway Rob. Would that mean your 133.net days would be over in a cloud of dirty soot? Who else will keep me in check?
