... is on the motor insurance database!

Very odd, considering it was crashed into various large, metal objects around a shipping yard and then driven into the sea. I'd have thought it would have been a complete write-off but Renault have seemingly fixed it up and possible even sold it on

The registration number of the car that was being bashed around the shipping yard is HY58UWS, but they used a couple of different red 133s throughout the episode, so can't be certain which one actually ended up in the drink. Although, it's likely to be this one as there would be no point in completely ruining two brand new cars, would there?!

Anyone on here lucky enough to be the owner of this famous but probably completely screwed up motor?

Renault gave topgear 1 car and topgear brought 2 1 ended up in the see one got very damaged but I'm sure would have been repaired and 1 was used in the air shelter. I know the 133 that was used in another episode on track was sold onto someone from TOC

Yeah, I saw that one on Twingo OC a while back. I think they must have used that one on track and then used one for the road test etc and, finally, used one to bash about and dunk.

I also heard that the one they fired off into the sea was just a shell rather than a complete car, although could well have been a whole car once!

Would be interesting to know if they did sell the press cars that Top Gear used though.

Personally i wouldn't want to actually own a press car. Driven hard from day one and constantly!

Yes must get an even bigger hammering than even demonstrators or courtesy cars

Although driven hard they are very well looked after and serviced over frequently.

However... I wouldn't want one either :p

sounds a bit like my car, driven hard and constantly, at least mine is looked after though. the driving hard wouldnt bother me, its more the people not taking care of them like slamming doors, scratching inside and out, dont care if they drop / spill something inside etc

And hammering the engine /transmission when cold that can really shag up the car in it's mid term life

Yeah I heard that too. Also it would make sense for the manufacturer to service them as often as possible to maximise reliability.

That's my thinking on it as well. A lot of cars will be driven hard from day one but the most damage would be driven hard from cold. Wonder how many journos would bother waiting for that or just get in and rag it's butt off? :?

Also, like you say it's the lack of care that would put me off just as much. The car just generally getting a bit of a battering.

I mean lets face it, we all know how fast courtesy cars are because they're not ours to worry about. I've not doubt the same could be said of a press car.
