Thank you for spraying straight over the original Gordini alloys, the spray job was so **** its now flaking off and I have 1/8th of an original alloy and 7/8th of a crappy anthracite which doesn't even match renault anthracite.

You have cost me more money, bravo!

Are you sure it wasn't done hastily by a dealer to disguise damage to a wheel for a sale?

No idea but I can now clearly tell it had black inserts instead of the blue, it doesn't look like they even took the tyres off on closer inspection, and the full cost of a proper same day powder coat near me is about £300!

Only had the car 5 months and at the rate its flaking ill have the original colour within another 5, I never use acidic wheel cleaner either and don't have a pressure washer so I use a hose attachment.

Hmm not good. If it makes you feel better tho.. my alloys are coming through red underneath :s its weird

My old car was a victim of this (unsurprising considering I bought it from an Arnold Clark dealership), only took about 6 months for the paint to flake off and reveal the silver underneath. Shocking if you think about it.

I really can't see why you have a beef with the previous owner in this way. You bought the car with sprayed wheels rather than standard, so you should always expect the worst. :?

I know but I didn't expect someone would spray straight onto the original wheels without any prep or even taking tyres off :(

When funds come in they will either be powder coated white or ill simply buy some new wheels as I need new tyres soon as well so that could still work out cheaper than a refurb and then new tyres

That's better. :) I guessed you were a bit irate when you started the thread. ;)

You really need to wonder how many owners of these cars would spend the necessary money to do a good job on a set of wheels. Unfortunately there's too many that think they can do a good enough job with a couple of rattle cans than a professional shop would charge £3-400 for.

You were warned at the c2 gate crash meet that they seemed resprayed and after James crawled underneath not a good job either.

Mhmm I know this sounds silly but as one wheel the anthracite paint you can almost peel away like egg shell, is there any way to take off the top layer of paint to reveal the original polished and black insert wheels with damaging them too much.

Just thinking, as I don't want to butcher them, like pressure wash them to see if the water gets some off and then some very very fine wet and dry sand paper?

If not I may see if I can borrow a set of wheels or something and fully strip them back myself and refurb them that way, I should be able to get hold of a spray gun but I don't have anywhere to allow them to dry except my mates greenhouse

Just thinking as I would prefer some 15" white rota grids for summer as there's alot more tyres available and like the look of the dunlop dz03 or toyo r1rs and then steel wheels for winter..

Rather than attempt to save yourself time, I'd suggest going the full hog and stripping them back and starting again. The results will be worth it.

Weighing up the costs as I need 2 new rear tyres and a refurb ideally.

Looking at some 15s in white then use the battered RS wheels for emergencies.

Great minds think alike. I don't think its cost effective to have to keep refurbing the rs alloys, they don't need new tyres but they've seen better days (few nicks taking out of them etc). There going into storage this weekend then come winter a set of winter tyres are going on them. Never fitted winter tyres before but I will this time

The Belgians across the border make buddy club P1s in white look good on a dini, they are a massive contender as well as rota grids.

Got a new job so the project can get a kick start but this might mean skipping FCS, its 50/50 whether I go ATM.
