I wired my foglights into the main beam and adjusted the aim up, so they aren't pointing at the floor. I used a relay, so they could also be used as fogs, without the main beam comming on as well and has a seperate power feed to prevent overloading the main beam circuit
Makes a surprising difference to the amount of light for country roads.

Now I've gone back to normal bulbs, but the Osram Night breaker plus bulbs in both headlight and foglights, instead of the HID conversion. Now, the main beam bulb has a longer throw of light, suplemented by the wide angle near distance fill from the fogs and no difference in colour temperature.
Just an option, as it saves drilling holes, keeps it looking standard and is very cheap to do if your doing the wiring
If you can get to the adjusters on the back of the foglights through the wheel arch liners, you could try it first by just switching the fogs on manualy
