Twizy without a driving license?

Not too sure it's a good idea to have 16y old's who haven't passed their tests driving around in the cities. Some of those who have are bad enough.

Renault is likely to introduce a 28mph-max Twizy 45 to the UK in 2013 in order to take advantage of a new light-vehicle category that will allow it to be driven by 16 year olds without a driving licence.
Andy Heiron, head of EV programme at Renault UK, said the new type-approval category would start from January 2013. It will include quadricycles with a limited 28mph top speed, weighing less than 350kg unladen. According to Heiron, “there are still details to be finalised by the government, and there will be a basic practical and theory test involved.”
One issue could be insurance. Heiron said, according to initial enquiries drivers under 18 “could be faced with premiums of up to £4000” though that figure drops dramatically with age.

A suped-up mobility scooter for the underage. Just what we need around the city's roads. Then again, i don't know any 16 year olds with £6k in the bank spare.
17 year old lads on scooters undertaking and not having a clue about the highway code is bad enough.

Can you drive one if you have had your license taken off you? Maybe this is where old people will fight they're way back on the road after being declared unsuitable to drive proper cars.

Great idea, much safer than scooters. Whats the difference between a 16 yr old in a Twizy and a 17 yr old in a full blown car? The 16yr old will be safer and not be allowed on motorways.

I'd much prefer to have the 16 yr old learn the rules of the road in a Twizy before moving on to a proper car at 17.

Chances are the average 16 year old is less likely to have the cash for a Twizy so that's one thing.

That said, a 16 year old on a moped is more dangerous in my opinion. They ride them like powered BMX bikes, weaving through traffic etc. At least in a Twizy they'll feel more vulnerable as they're the slowes proper car on the roads, could actually teach a 16 year old take responsibility when they finally end up in a more powerful car.

Agreed! No 16 year old I know would want to be seen dead driving a glorified old person scooter! As if it isn't embarrassing enough having to ride a moped!

The latest craze around where I live is quadbikes! I can't believe riders don't have to wear a helmet!

Im tempted to buy one... saves getting my proper car out when i pop to the shops... i can imagine mum and dad having the same thoughts so maybe get prepared to see one on here if they sell them in the UK.

But for that use alone is really worth £7-10k +£45pm?
