Thought this would be an interesting topic judging by some of the others topics.
Myself I do road rallying and auto solo's and have won the local championship once before and have top 10 placings on national events .
Cars I have used are Ford puma, Hillman Avenger, Skoda Felicia,Fabia and Octavia

I didn't do any events last year due to work commitments and buying a house and am only planning on doing one event this year.

That's the sort of thing that I'd like to have a crack at, some time.

I used to do rallies and enduros on bikes and quads. When I had enough of that, I did a couple of years of observed trials locally.

I'd love to get into something like that but I need to get a car for it first haha

Ah love abit of drifting. Same as rallying as you can get up and close to the cars and the sounds and smells!

We used to have an Avenger when I was a kid. As light as a feather and so quite quick acceleration for its size. My Dad used to say "you can catch pigeons in an Avenger"

Yeh they are light and will out handle an escort all day long and are a lot better on bumpy tarmac than a sunbeam as there a bit twitchy.
This one goes a bit better that when it left the show room ;)

I don't actively compete in Motorsport, Marshal a lot on Rally events - both Gravel and Tarmac.

My Dad used to Road Rally, did so before I was born.
I'm tempted to get into 12 Cars and have a prepped Ka/Puma or similar so that I don't wreck my Twingo when I marshal on Forest Events

Would go for a puma over a ka we have ran the black puma above for getting on for 5 years and never misses a beat and has over 160k on the clock!
Do you go up for Mull in October?

Nah buddy, I was on the McRae around that time...I think

Can't actually remember where I was then :p
Mull is a bit of a PITA considering you still have the fuel and ferry to pay for, isn't cost effective.

Contemplating Rally Barbados next year...

If you marshal on mull u get ferry and money towards fuel. I have only missed 2 years in 32 so not bad going but then again I did live in Oban for 7 years. Would love to do mull one year!!

LOL. Yes it looks quick! Yours is a Mark 1, so started out life as either a 1250cc or a 1500cc. The Mark 2 had a different grill / lights and somewhere along the way the engine sizes increased to 1300cc and 1600cc. Later versions had less-distinctive rear lights to replace the original L-shaped cluster, probably about the time they dropped the Hillman name and started badging them as Talbot.

IIRC, the Sunbeam was based on a shortened Avenger floorpan, and I'd imagine it's the shorter wheelbase that accounts for it being twitchy.

My Dad's was a dark green 1500 Mark 1, HNW898K, then he traded up to a metallic gold 1600 MDT327P, which was the first brand-new car he ever had. Sorry, got a bit of a geek thing about numbers :ugeek:

Yeh its a mk1 started life as an 1500 DL. Just sold last year a 1500 super and a mk2 1600 gls 2 door. We have had avengers since 1980 and have had about 7 in total. The Avenger was also the first computer designd car! My Orange one is now running about 160/70 bhp and only weights just over 800k.
