Hi everyone. Just heard about the club today. Hope I'm welcome - I'm 59 - but have always had small sporty cars, from 5GT Turbo, AX GT onwards.
I bought a new Cup in red with black wheels last Sept for the 60 reg. I've done just 5000 miles, but found the wheels chipped readily from day one. They haven't been kerbed, but the paint is so brittle. I have thought of touching them in with black Hammerite; any suggestions?
The seats lack any lateral support (I'm very slim). Has anyone fitted Recaros?
I'm surprised that the car has a heavy full-sized spare. Has anyone tried using istant puncture repair products?
My only mechanical fault with the car is a graunching from the power steering on tick-over; is this common?

Welcome to the forums :)

You're probably better off going for a full refurb and powdercoat, it will be much more durable.

There have been a few people fit Recaros, Al for one. Matt (Stickeroo) has also installed OMP racing seats.

I've found the PAS does get a little graunchy towards the end of the lock but otherwise it's fine.

Hope you enjoy your stay :D

I seem to recall some other members having issues with their wheel paint flaking off. It may be worth having a word with your Renault dealer about it as it's dodgy paint then they should respray them for you. As for touching it up (after speaking with Renault hopefully) you'd be better off getting a gloss black touch up pen from somewhere like Halfords in my opinion.

I did notice some strange noises from my PAS shortly after getting my car however this died out and has since never returned so I assumed it was just new parts bedding in?

There are OMP subframes available for the Twingo (what I use) or you can modify the Clio subframes like Al did or even make some custom ones. I'm not aware of anyone who has fit the Renaultsport Recaro seats yet but Al did fit some nice fixed back Recaros.

The spare wheel is very annoying. Luckily I've only had to use it once when getting a wheel refurbed last minute so I'm considering using a foam bottle, too. I have one sitting under my desk from an old car so it makes sense. Never had to use one so I can't comment on the effectiveness but it will weigh a hell of a lot less!

Welcome to the club!

My alloys didnt flake but faded in colour , I contacted Renault UK and managed to get them to send me a cheque for £200 to get them powdercoated.

Foam bottles are fine...if you haven't blown a hole out the sidewall or split an alloy

Firstly, thanks for the kind welcome - I'm still a lad at heart, and running a sporty car helps keep me that way.
I saw pictures of the 2012 Twingos today, and sat in the Silverstone - no Recaros, but a nicer-sounding twin-tailpipe exhaust.
I heard that apart from a Williams Clio, there may be a Williams Twingo too. I hope so. It would be a true successor to the original Clio Williamses - the current Clio is just too big. I had a couple of Clio 16Vs and am sure they were closer in size (and even lighter) than my 133.
