I know that you are likely to get the best deals just before the new number plates come out.
However, say I'm after a 1-2 year old car, when is the best time to buy to get the best deal? (E.g. Buying/selling a house at Xmas isn't likely ).

What I'm trying to say is: Is there a tread on when is the best time ill get a cracking deal on a car.

I'm in no rush and need to do a bit of saving first.

Thanks guys.

(See my posts are more sensible nowadays?)

I believe you answered this yourself ;).

If you're looking for a newish car 1-3 years I'd say the month before the new plates come out, being if you buy from a dealers that is.

my bad, worded it badly... if i wasn't buying from a dealer.

Don't rush getting a car! Plus a little tip, look up north as cars are always so much cheaper. I got my car a lot cheaper up there compared to the south!!!! ;)

If you're buying new from a dealer, then end of September and March are good, as they need to sell a set number to be able to enjoy a good discount from the manufacturer/importer. If you are buying secondhand from a dealer, then around the same time, as they will have cars that were p/ex'd against new cars, that they need to shift. That's how it has been in previous years, but this year prices seem stronger than they should be for this time of year.

Privately, then you should get a bargain in December, as just before Christmas is dead for sales, and the end of January and July for toys and special machines, as that's when self-employed people have their tax bills to pay. ;)
