Woman hit by learner driver daughter dies

A woman has died after she was hit by a car being reversed by her 17-year-old daughter who was a learner driver.

Susan Duke, 41, suffered serious head injuries when she was struck in the car park of Cuxton Social Club near Rochester, in Kent, on Monday.

Ms Duke was taken to a London hospital by air ambulance but died on Wednesday, Kent Police said.

It is thought Ms Duke may have been teaching her daughter, Lauren, to drive when the accident happened.
'Always cheerful'

Cuxton resident Ken Barton paid tribute to Ms Duke, who worked at Cuxton Social Club bar.

He said: "She was always cheerful, always very pleasant, just a very nice person."

Another resident, Eve Chambers, who knows the family, said: "I feel so sorry for the young girl, I really do.

"She's got that for the rest of her life. It's tragic."

Kent police said no arrests had been made in relation to the incident.

Appealing for witnesses, PC Chris Oliver-Jones, said: "This is a tragic incident at a busy time of day so hopefully there would have been a lot of people around."

He said family liaison officers were working closely with the family to provide support.

What was the mother doing out of the car? Was she the one teaching her? But do feel sorry for the girl, she's never going to be able to get over it!

This is why you should always learn to drive with a qualified ADI... but yes, shocking incident :(
