Why would you not want spacers :S The GT looks gay without them

For the potential differences in how it drives and the additional wear to components that spacers can have..? Plus insurance as its an additional mod over the wheels maybe. Plus the cost of buying them. A few other reasons I can think of

what maggi112 said basicly, i dont like the idea of the shim type spacers and the ones what bolt to the hub are quite expensive at over £200 for 4 spacers, and im un sure of what clearance i need till i measure it

If it helps I have H&R spacers on mine and they need 25mm clearance to allow the correct offset for 1.2's, I brought cup alloys thinking they would fit but they caught on the inner wheelarch by 3mm roughly and the same on the back suspension; although I didn't fancy paying £200 for spacers I was never risking the shim spacers so I saved for a bit to get the decent set. In terms of ride quality and steering feel they feel much better now with the wider track, the car feels more stable in corners and there no strange noises, vibrations etc. steering feels the same as before and they make the car look totally different the wheels no longer dissapear in the arches. I was going to get rid of the wheels but thought with the hassle etc. it would be cheaper for me to buy spacers.
Hope this helps
