! I think a major recall by RS would be in order if that was the case! The rim doesn't come anywhere near the road (assuming the tyres are correctly inflated) and if you're getting it close then your speed it quite frankly scary. At tracks I've had my rim 1 inch or so off the road with hard leaning, but that was running at 25-30% less PSi than road recommendations.


Ive also noticed that the rim sits on the tyre when going up kerbs so it doesnt touch the floor as the tyre is in the way. (Noticed when reversing on the drive)

It was simply a question regarding hard cornering as from pictures I've seen of road cars on the track, they lean extremely hard onto the outer tyre wall.

Combine a relatively quick corner, extremely low profile tyre and say a rough patch of road. Would that be enough to damage the rim of the wheel?? I'm intrigued, not trying to say that's a fact.

I've owned numerous cars with low profile tyres and the Twingo 133 is the first I've experienced which has such a wheel/tyre combination that you can damage a wheel, without even knowing it. :?

Without a doubt, it's far easier to scar these wheels than any other I've had previous. As Karl says above, when mounting a curb the wheels pinch the tyres down making that worse than normal too. Having lower profile tyres, low pressure, a rough road would all add to the increase of knocking the wheels. I've always felt you have to treat the 133's 17s with kid gloves and 90% of that (IMO) in down to the tyres.
 
Without a doubt mate, for a car that is generally designed to be a day to day motor, the wheel/tyre combination is just ridiculously fragile.

I'm hoping that the replacement rims I'm looking at which I plan to have 205/40 tyres on will minimise the problem. I think the Mrs has just decided to give up until she gets new tyres.

Have you seen the 19's on the 250/265? I hope RS aren't going to make it a thing with keep putting beautiful wheels protected by rubber bands. Perfect for trailering to a track/handling etc, but as 99.9% are day to day, as you say it's crazy.

I've even "curbed" my track wheels running 205s :lol:
 
I think wheels are one thing that will be impossible not to damage while driving. As its not just you if you have a on coming car and loose chippings the stones will spread to the left and right of that vechile meaning going towards your car and seeing how low the profile on the wheels its very easy to clear the 40mm in bouncing.

Certainly with us living near/in London it's impossible. Any car's wheels would get damaged at one point, the 133 seems to attract it more though.
 
Sadly all wheels take a bit of a hammering. There just seems to be this trend of form over function rims appearing.

Don't get me wrong, we all like a nice set of wheels but it seems to be the whole bigger is better mentality and in terms of ride comfort and practicality, that's not always ideal with wheels.
 
With my wheels on the dynamique coz I have fat tyres it saves me curbing the wheels when I think I do :) So there is a pro to having fat tyres ;-)
 
Haha definitely is mate.

My mum had a Ford Focus which had 195/55or60/16 tyres on it, the wheel were perfect when she sold the car because the tyres were so protective of the rim.
 
Just been reading this post, and I unfortunately curbed my passenger rear alloy on my way home from knockhill this weekend!! :-(

Only done 1000 miles!
The damage is rite on the edge of the alloy where it meets the rubber!

How do u go around smoothing it and painting it myself? Any help would be great, as I dnt really have cash for refurb this month. And no doubt it will happen again soon! Grrr

I used a bit of very ! Fine grit sand paper to take the bur off cleen it and use a black gloss touch up stick :) that's that I done with mine.
 
We actually used a metallic black paint from Halfords which we actually used to touch up chips on my Mrs old 2005 Megane.

Seems to have touched up the edges enough to make it barely visible. Sadly when the rims get caught even slightly, it's right on the edge and shows up nice and white/silver.

So far so good with my new rims though, 205/40/17 FTW!! lol
 
The other day I was forced off the road by a stupid XC90 driver caning it down the middle of a back road :evil:

Just grazed the edge of the rim on a low curb edge. Is there a touch-up pen/paint trick type option for the anthracite wheels at all?
