Am I the only one that finds the beep annoying as hell!
The light is fine to me, a beep is irritating and the light's bright enough to notice.

I'm not a fan of a beep either my friends got one in his RX8 and it's quite annoying

I had a 172, and by the time you've noticed the shift light you hit the limiter anyway.
Same of course at the moment in my 182 Cup.

I had an EP3 Civic Type R until a few weeks ago when I got the RS Gordini.
Honda didnt have a shift light, but the revving in the vtec zone was so addictive, you couldnt help but pap-pap-pap into the limiter very very often.

I find in the Gordini if you gun it from scratch in 1st 2nd 3rd, it is happier to pull to the shift light than say, when youre putting your foot down to over take someone in-gear.

I need to get a BMC or Green panel filter. :)

Its very easy with the Twingo though as as soon as i see the green light i change and its in perfect unison rarely hit the limiter would just be nice to have an audible one for sunny days and just for peace of mind as im sure its not healthy to be bouncing off the limiter all the time.

the fact that the engine note is getting louder and the revcounter needle is getting closer to 7 is normaly enough of a clue that it's time to change up.

It's a novelty thing though.

Only had it happen once in mine and it was by accident.. it was moisty and wet (on the road ;) ) and had some huge wheelspin when going on a ramp to the highway.

Afterwards it smelled a little burned in my car..

But for mine, I don't think it's necessary.

The two noteable smells for us petrolheads:
Burning rubber and burning clutch.

The smell of victory and the smell of disaster.

Sorry, It was a flippant remark made with only light-hearted intent. I was unaware that people were injured, hope that nothing is permanent, and I wish them a speedy recovery. :)
