Sorry but u have to get a Panasonic. Wont find a better camera for the money, guarantee that

Got to agree. I'm also a Panny convert (compact). I used to use SLR with 35mm, but just find the camera size too bulky for what I want now.

Been looking at some Sony's, the Nex compact models look interesting.
They're still compact but have changeable lenses.

Currently having a Canon Eos 400D with Sigma lenses but I think the Xmas gift this year will be a brand new 5D with 2-3 proper Canon lenses on it :) It´s time to upgrade as I´m really reaching the limits of my current setup.

NEX-5N looks promising, not too expensive.
Overall good reviews only the menu seems a little tricky.

f the 5d is too expensive, then the canon 60d is a good steping stone, its a good middle ground one, not the basic slr and not the high end.

and it will record hd vid as well

True but I realise that not everyone can invest £2.5k in a camera. We have to be slightly realistic ;) :)

2.5k + becasue thats only the body price isnt it. need to get a decent lens as well

photography is an expensive hobby :(

With DSLR's, get decent glass over a new body. Sensor and focus selection technology evolves so fast that cutting edge today is out of date in two years time. At the moment, even the basic consumer DSLR has more functions and higher pixel count than pro cameras from 5 years ago. Not that that is alwys a good thing, as theres more to life than MP bragging rights

Decent glass will hold its value much better and once you have the best, be that either outright best, or the best for your budget, it will serve you well for years to come. Theres no poing putting an average or poor lens onto an expensive body as the resulting picture will only be as good as the lens that's gathering the light and focussing it onto the sensor.
