recently i've noticed the paintwork on my car apparently worse for wear and i was hoping someone could recommend how to get it back to his former state of glory (nice and shiny)

here is what it looks like pretty much (pics taken off internet and not actual car... the paintwork i would say is hazy, swirly, buff marks, scratchy). I don't own nor have i ever used a machine polisher and i don't really want to i would rather just find products that i could use with my hands...

i am considering a professional detail but i don't really want to spend £500 on it...

You would benefit just from a machine polish. A detailer won't charge you £500 unless they're doing paint correction.

Get some better prices from local detailers?

you shouldnt be paying that, what about getting a mate with a machine polisher to come and give it a buff for u?

This is the email with quotes i got:

New Car Protection Detail - Protection & Proper care from the word go!
Our new car detailing services ensure your pride & joy is looked after in the right way from the very beginning. Make sure you tell the dealer not to wash the car as this is always a rushed job! You can choose a new car protection detail or go a step further and have a new car enhancement detail.

STARTING FROM: £179 inc vat
ESTIMATED TIME: 6 hours - 1 day

Protection Detail – Protection against the elements
Our protection detail offers and introduction to our fantastic detailing services at an even better price! This package will ensure your car is protected in the same was as our more in depth work. Your car will be covered against the elements ensuring protection from normal road dirt, Tar spots, Salt & bird Etchings. With our Swissvax coatings we also promise a brilliant shine. Enhancement Detail – Restore Gloss & Depth 60-70% improvement in swirls
This is a step up from our protection work. By giving each car a full machine polish, we deliver a turnaround into the appearance of the paint by returning the gloss and lustre back into tired looking surfaces. This work is normally done inside of two days. It is very similar to our major correction details. We use a 2 stage machine detail here to greatly knock back a lot of swirl marks and scratches from the clear coat. This is a very very popular package for us at Miglior as it only takes two days and it doesn't cost a great deal. The difference of this work is magnificent and it takes a keen eye to spot the difference from this to our full correction.

There's a bloke in Luton who looks after a few Porsches at work. Did an enhancement on a caymen s for ~£200 this month. Looks great. The paint wasn't that bad though.

do you know any details about the luton guy? link to site or number?

I'm surprised it looks that bad, so it's probably fair to say theres not much point in going for full correction as its a pain to keep ontop of and, unless your wash regime is up to scratch (no pun intended) its a downhill slope untill the next time. Besides, theres the posibility of going through the clear coat if your trying to eliminate a scratch and not monitoring the removal with a thickness gauge... but theres a lot of room for improvement without spending days on it.

This was just taking off enough to get rid of the holograms and the majority of the swirls with a DA buffer

One of the specialist sealants with plenty of fillers, like Black hole may be enough to keep you happy, but would need topping up in future but doesn't cost a fortune or remove any paint. Maggi can probably advise if its worth trying

Tempted to go for stage 3, they are very local to me too, only issue is i dont really understand their "1 step Machine Polish + 1-step Paint Cleanse +1 coat wax" any ideas:
Just a guess, but one step machine polish would probably be using a moderate cuting compound/pad combination and allowing it to refine down which will give a decent finish but not as good as selecting a second finer compound/pad to buff once more.

A cleansing wipe down will remove any residual polish

Wax to protect the bare paintwork

Yeah it's the bloke at prestige detail if you google him he has a unit in bedford/luton

Machine Polishing always costs alot because of time and effort it takes. Best if you do have a mate that would do it cheap. certainly wouldnt buy a polisher and trying yourself.

That company are very highly rated on detailing world.

do a great job aswell from what ive seen.

Thanks for the help/info guys!

James, i've e-mailed prestige and hoping to pop down to him for him to look over the car at some point.

Ok so following on from my other thread where i said about the damage to my paintwork.. i've been out and washed the car and got some pictures of it to show you all.

On Tuesday i am off to Prestige detailing (recommended by Maggi (james) off here) to discuss how much it will be and to book it in...

any thoughts on the damage/will a good detail and touching up fix it?

Nearly all of this was already on the car when bought... not all though

Black trim on the outside, looks to be stained/damaged chemically.. this was already like it when i bought the car:

In the sunshine it looks immaculate its up close it looks bad

From the previous puctures, I was expecting it to look a shed.

Chances are a lot of the random scratch marks won't be easy to remove fully unless spending more time (money). However, even with a few hours there will be a big improvement in how visible they are once the edge is taken off. Many of the lighter scuffs shold be completely gone.

It may be worth while getting the larger stone chips and door chip touched in before hand as it will offer some protection back to the metal and theres no way you can get rid of them completely by buffing alone, when theres base coat showing or no laquer to play with.

It won't be perfect, but there will be a big improvement :)

Thanks Neil!

I'm expecting to pay £300 for it and to leave the car with him for a couple of days so fingers crossed!

Damn you :( Now look what youve started
