My Megane's tax for six months is about the same as a year for the Twingo. The Twingo 133 really isn't that bad to tax and run by comparison.

Must admit though, when I look at the tax they take off me every pay day it' somewhat a kick in the nuts.

i no this an age old moan but i think its unfair that some cars, like a smart diesel or something have nil tax!they still use the same roads as the chelsea tractors that are paying hundreds
fair enough they might b "clean&friendly" but they dont float over the tarmac!!!

rant over

Have a £235 year road tax......that hurts your pocket or in my case not as sorn it and use the mother Kia Soul Tempest :p

My little 51 reg Smart Fortwo was only £35.00 a year that i sold last year.

I couldn't agree more. Me and a mate were chatting about this last night.

A car, regardless of emissions still wears out the road and still needs them maintained etc.

If everyone in the country turned to cars with zero tax, what happens then? lol

Of course they will then have to pay tax

Just like when deisels came here many years ago they was cheaper to run then everyone was buying them so that all changed

Erm because road tax isn't that any more. It's more of a social tax that happens to be imposed on motorists. IIRC a percentage of it will be going, or already does go, to help those who are victims of some sort of injustice in some way totally un car related.

The fact it is based on emissions is supposed to make people think about their purchases more socially. I reckon it's just a chance for those who really can afford a cayenne to wave their willies a little bit more than they already try to

No duty on fuel on fuel is completely different. (tax on fuel is done 3 times)

Yes but the more you drive, the more you pay. The more your car drinks, the more you pay for the same journey as well.

It was kind of a rhetorical question haha.

As Maggi says though, it's a social tax but also a tax on the wealthy or those perceived as wealthy. I mean if you can genuinely afford an expensive car then they're not going to think twice about paying £400 a year in tax.

I mean if you're buying a £50k Range Rover or Porsche Cayenne, what's £400? Probably not even a months fuel! lol
