I never open the throttle till there is heat in the engine. Just the jerking around when trying to pull away at junctions from cold is embarrassing.

I've noticed mine dose it aswel where my road is quite I just crawl up it till it's warmed up

Success,

My car went in for the kangarooing on a cold start. I have got more details as you how the dealership found the solution (remap to a later map)

in the Renault problems solutions database that dealerships can search. its called "Renault actis solution 8071" maybe worth asking the dealership about it.

Also makes me wonder if a dealer can delete your custom map by performing this upgrade? Maybe they think of giving you extra service by doing this, but wipe your custom map?

You should check the service the tuning shop did for your remap.

Mine sets your remap back for free if the garage wipes it.

yup apparently (most?) they can't tell if there is a custom map on there, just that there is a updated one, I know a guy with a mapped golf that had it wiped by a dealer as on his service notes it hadn't been done. The company that flashed it reflashed it for free.

To answer this precisely, the lambda ratio on a cold crank start is about 7:1, it takes about 6 minutes to heat up the engine. Won't go into to much detail on it, nothing to do with the map. It is the engine, its a 1.6 afterall which is relatively small and lacklustre for cold starts! It takes 6 minutes to bring the engine to lambda operating temp ie to maintain optimum conditions for the 14.7:1 fuel ratio in terms of heat. Remember cold starts nearly drain the battery, and a car engine is 95% electronics based. Most of that 6mins is battery and alternator ***! Alternator re supplying the battery, to provide the current to spark and create heat and in turn power! So don't worry about your car in the cold, that is normal :) renault mechanic here!

I had an issue with cold start.

Turns out it was a loose earth cable. Was fixed just by reconecting it properly and an updated ECU map

The 197 is worse than my TWINGO ever was (even before Renault remapping it) when cold. Complete and utter dog. Kangarooing, unwilling to rev etc etc. So it's not just the k4m.

Thing is we have had two 1.6 fatarsed meganes and they were absolutely fine.

but not the 133 version which has higher compresion and different cams.

The more tuned a car/engine is, the more character it tends to gain

Sorry my edit got lost in the land of tapatalk. Was going to say similar, must be down to the differences between the engines.
