My wife just took her pre-facelift Twingo RS in for its first service. All went smoothly but I was surprised to hear that they want it in again to do some more work under warranty. The story I got second hand through my wife is that there is a "known problem" with the bushes which they want to replace under warranty. On the worksheet there is a comment that both front lower arm ball joint boots are split, which I'm taking to be what they're referring to. Is this really a common problem, or could it be the dealer wanting to pad out a quiet spell with a bit of extra warranty work?

Second question is tyres. It needs new tyres on the front soon. The car has the cup chassis and wheels so despite best efforts my wife has managed to kerb the wheels and is going to get them refurbed shortly. I understand that the new cars come with 205/40 rubber. Has the wheel size changed at all and would it be sensible to put 205/40s on to try and give the rims a bit of protection? Any problems to watch out for when doing this, and any problem leaving the 195/40s at the rear in place for a few months? If that's a goer, what's the best 205/40 (premium) tyre to go for?

Sorry for all the questions. I've only been allowed to drive the car a few times (I have my own toy), but it's put a smile on my face every time. If you see a white and black Twingo RS being driven "enthusiastically" around Teesside it may well be the missus. Feel free to wave ;)

Yes the lower arms are common I think basically everyone on here had had th replaced at least once under warranty. And u can put 205/40 on a ore face lift as I have on my cup

As poweller says, the lower ball joints are very common. If you search for "suspension lower ball joints" you'll find quite a long thread.

They haven't changed the cup alloys at all on the facelift, and they've actually reverted back to 195/40 on the facelift too. I've got some 195/40 dunlops on mine which offer far more protection than the standard contis. There's a few on here with 205/40 hankooks on and perhaps one or two still with uniroyal rain sports.

Thanks for the advice. So Renault initially started shipping the face lifted version with 205/40s and then switched back to 195/40s? Any idea why?

If you had to buy new tyres for the cup alloys would you go for 205 or 195?

I went for the 205/40 option due to tyres being cheaper in that size and offer the wheel more protection as well
