Hi,

New to this forum ;)

I currently own a Clio Dynamique 1.2l, Having had it for around 8 months now and attempting to do work on it without success. Fitted a K&N induction Kit (Easy job) proved time consuming as well as taking it down to Ktec racing who despite their best attempts couldn't get into the ECU, now im ready to part. I'm now looking for a twingo GT for when I turn 18. Thought the twingo GT would be better suited for insurance wise as I'm willing to spend time on it to get it to the 133's standard, through new exhaust, remap and induction kit if this is possible. However, whats the main difference between the two? would It be worth my while getting the 133 and biting the bullet with the insurance costs If they are that much better to drive? Also how do they run? has anyone had any problems tuning them or doing any upgrades on them? sorry for 50 questions here guys..
Might take me a while to find the right Twingo. How do the interior colors work? I don't really like the look of the cream/charcoal (if that is the correct color pattern) I was looking for an all black interior with an all black exterior. However after looking for the last couple of weeks in struggling to find many with black interiors? Should I go for the Gordini's or is this changeable?

Just looking for some advice from the people in the know here guys..
But really looking forward from jumping from my mere 83bhp clio to a 120+ Twingo.

look forward to hear back from you,

cheers ben :)

I've had a gt and 133 and u notice the difference straight away. The 133 has better handling the steering feels different and it looks meaner then the gt. if u can afford to get a 133 then get 1. Mines been remapped and I have the rs exhaust

All 133's have black interiors as far as I'm aware. Best bet is to have a look through the progress threads to see what's been done to gt's and 133's which might answer some questions for you tuning wise.

Yeah, what sort of bhp are you seeing? I've heard that the GT's can't go much over 130bhp without having any major work done. insurance will be the decider if the quotes are accurate. the GT quotes are looking rather reasonable however :)

Injectors, front mount intercooler, exhaust, induction, remap... Can see you 140+

If thats a GT is the 140+ safe for stock parts? I want to have a little project but don't want to find myself over time replacing half the car :) may as well have a look at doing the springs and lowering if it needs it as well then for the sake of handling if they can put out those sorts of figures

Definitely not 140+ on stock parts, will struggle to get near 130bhp all stock.

To hit 132bhp you'll need 182 injectors cat back exhaust and a panel filter and remap.

Stock I'd be surprised to see over 120bhp no mods at all.

Welcome :) all 2009 models upwards have the black interior.

I'd personally wait until your 19/20 or have a few years NCB under you but if you have the funds (I'm guessing you'll be paying near the £2k mark if your the main driver). It would be cheaper performance wise to go for the 133 as you may end up spending upwards of £500-1000 on engine mods but then the 133 would still destroy you in the corners. I found with all mods declared on a GT(air filter,cat-back, remap, coilovers and fmic) to be near the same performance as the 133's I'd be paying £200 more than I would with a 133.

140bhp is the point where the clutch starts to slip according to the GT owners and the fuel pump max's out. Also the turbo is good for up to 150bhp.

Hi,

Thanks for the advice, I'm looking at insurance quotes of around £1000-£1200 for the GT but quotes of £3000 and upwards on the 133. However that is without declaring any upgrades so it will go sky high. As to performance on the GT i would expect it to be far from the 133 but should be able to easily kill my mates 1.2's ;) the interior think I need to stop being so fussy about it, the car looks great from the outside! I would look to do induction/panel filter, remap, Ktec cat back exhaust and a few other bits but don't want to go crazy.

Hardly any about at the moment though so its just depressing waiting for the right car to come up!

Kill your mates 1.2's? Mine kills my mates 1.6's... and easily kept up with my girlfriends brothers 1.7 Astra GTC Diesel yesterday. In all honesty I think a modded GT would be better than a standard 133 (apart from the chassis obviously), you have to spend BIG money to get anything out of a N/A engine and with a turbo you don't.

I like the engine. But as a package, the 133 is the best IMO. I just can't stand how the twingo looks in anything other than rs guise. It's just that bit wider, looks slightly more aggressive whilst retaining that cheeky element we all like. Plus I drove a gt when looking and I can't say I enjoyed how it handled either.

But that's what I prefer over being able to drive fast over a straight line. Of course coilovers could change the way a gt drives, but it's not like for like is it

I wouldn't know, I've never driven a 133, but you lot have also never driven a GT slammed on coilovers with spacers lol. In all honesty the standard GT is pretty awful, but once you've made some changes it's great.

Well looks like I'm going for the GT in that case! Will be worth it if I can get that sort of performance out of the 1.2, rather than spending the money on insurance! The 133 looks more aggressive which I like, but some of the GT's on here once they've had some work done looks great!

Just posted in the classifieds that I'm looking for a GT, hopefully won't be too long down the line from now that I'm making a project log! :)

with the correct stiffening braces and suspension coil overs, the 133's cornering ability is as good as matched with the GT. stiffen the chassis on any car to take out the effects of roll, lower the centre of gravity closer to the road and the GT becomes a real GT car. with the webber clio 182 250cc injectors, an custom made exhaust (shy away from RS and Ktec etc as they are not tailored to your map, they are a one size fits all sort of deal) a new intercooler, get a ram air intake for your car with an enclosed housing around the filter (look at BMC) and a remap, you will get to around 140 very easily. it's when you aim for 150, that's when you really need to start spending serious money which just isn't worth it when you can pick up a drift / time attack missile for 5 grand. the 133 is a great car, probably the best hot hatch out there. the truth is that the GT and the RS133 within reason top out at about 145-150bhp, that's hitting the limit of what you can realistically do so whichever one you go for man, you will deffinately enjoy more than any car you've ever driven...that's why we are all so passionate about them!!!!
