A whole bunch of good apps are already named. My little addition: Onavo. Say's to reduce your data-usage.

Get rid of that now, it's an intermediate that compresses all of your data and it does that by:

Uploading ALL of your data to their servers to be compressed and then distributes it out. I couldn't think of anything worse, passing every single byte of data from my phone through a third party service.

In which case, it wouldn't reduce your data upload/download if it is done on their servers

Also acts as a proxy filtering out unwanted data. Everything you do goes through their service, all in their privacy policy on their website.

If the app compressed it on your phone before sending out to the remote servers, and everything came back through their servers and was decompressed by the app on your phone that could work.

I've no idea if that's how this app actually works, never looked at it tbh as I spend most of my time roaming on wifi's so no real need to compress
