Man I'd give up driving if my insurance was ever that high!

My first year it was £2309!! i did love the car though :)

On a different note, everyone is talking about getting new cars makes me want one too :p

Yer they are great little cars, i was looking at them also, somehow the insurance is only 1900 which is 100 more than the twingo, so happy days!
only

And i fought mine being just under £900 was bad!

Im 19 what do you expect, insurance for teenagers is beyond ridiculous! i pay 1800 on the twingo!

But that's the point I think people are trying to make. If it's so rediculously expensive, it's not realistic to own that car. If you can afford it fair enough and suck it up. But when when I was 19 I bought a car having done research on insurance etc first and couldn't justify paying insurance on the car I wanted so made do until I was happy with them.

Yes more money than sense does come to mind, but I work very hard for my money and I dont have holidays every five minutes so what better to spend it on than having a shiny new seat ibiza at 18 a week after passing my test :)

I personally would rather pay more insurance for a car i would be happy with, than a car i wouldnt really want for the sake of insurance. Being a teenager has its downfall aswell!

No but there's realistic then theres £2k pa. And I saved, and bought the car I wanted. I don't get why people expect to get into fast cars and nice houses from the off. It's kinda views like that which hvae got this country into a state.

If you can afford it, why wouldnt you? why make do with something when you know you can have better?

Because sometimes there are more important things in life and I quite fancy buying a house one day. I waited for insurance to become more acceptable, I could afford to pay that within my budget but I wouldn't. I don't get why people don't ever make compromise when insurance is in the state it's in, everyone complains it's getting more and more expensive, as well as fuel and how they can't afford to put it in their car and pay the insurance man (in fact next person on facebook i see moaning about it is being deleted) but they're not realistic. I realise you didn't moan you quoted the amount. So fair enough, but it is a LOT

Im 19 so ofcourse im going to want the fastest car i can get insured on at a reasonable price for my age, so when they quoted me 1900 i was pleased with that because thats just what im use to paying, espeially since the twingo is 1800 and the last time i tried to get insured on a polo it was 6k! The cheapest ive ever payed for insurance was 1400 and that was for a 1.2 corsa! so im just use to paying alot for insurance. I think every 17 year old now pays 2k+ for insurance in their first year of driving.

And it's that attitude which is keeping insurance premiums on the rise. "it's my right to own a nice car"

Well it is? i work extremely hard for my money so why not reward myself with a nice car? why should insurance stop me if i can afford it?

good point, its your money and if you love a car and dont mind paying the insurance then fair play.

if it makes you "young" lot feel any better a few years ago i paid £3800 for insurance on my evo
and the fuel cost were out of this world!!it would only run on v power and £60 wouldnt never last me a week!!

i know it was a very stupid thing to do but hey ho :?

would you younger guys not b better off looking at slightly older cars that offer as much bang for buck (if not more)
rather than getting into finance??or is it due to the fact that you all like new cars??

eg 2010 twingo 133=£10000 or a starlet turbo=£2000.
the toyota would save you £8000 straight away and with a little bit of tuning can be made faster than the twingo

I loooked at starlet turbos and i know you can make them crazy fast! but its the fact that its an old car and things will most likely go wrong with it. The interior is god awful in them aswell which sort of put me off them.

I tihnk with young drivers its all about image, driving past in a old starlet turbo to most people who arent really clued up on their cars they will just think its a banger!

fair enough, i was just wondering if it was an image thing!

my number one concern when i buy a car is speed. i think image is prob the least important thing for me, in fact sometimes i love being in a shi*er with a monster unter the bonnet.

given the choice id have a stripped out 230brake starlet over a 10 plate twingo or polo anyday but thats just me

Well its all personal preference really. To me i would rather have a newer slower car than a faster older one.

My way of looking at it say you meet a girl and her parents see you in a banger car with stupid power or a newer more senseible car, which one would give them a better impression of you? haha

good point

but how long will it be before u have lowered your new car and got an exhaust and then the parents will just

Oh dont worry ill be modifying the polo alot! full miltek trubo back exhaust, forge intercooler and a remap from rs tuning gets them to around 230 bhp! part of the reason i bought one just for the turbo and the potential of polos. Wont be going down the dub scene though its too common. It was a toss up between the polo and a fiesta st, wasnt really impressed with the st :(
