I cant lie i sometimes feel the same.

I look at what i have and dont need i have 2 bikes and rarely use the car due to this as i also have access to Rachels car. So my car isnt really needed. But then i look at the other side of things ive paid so much on my car now if i was to sell up i might aswell throw the money ive paid on it down the drain. One of the reasons i wont sell it and keep hold of it on the drive. When you work things out money wise if i was to sell my car id free up £258 a month on the car and £80 a month on insurance so a total of £338.00. But when you look at the side ive paid off so far about £6192 or maybe a little more there is no point in selling it. For the price ill get to trade it in and the hard time of a private sale i may aswell keep it on the drive. Also when i do take it out as i havent drove it in a while i love it and makes me smile.

Like yourself i enjoy detailing but havent done any for a little bit of time now seeing my car hasnt needed a clean and to be honest havent had the time.

Theres loads of things i want to do in life and also want to get my own place but with how times are at the moment its not worth commiting myself into anything just incase other thing fall though and screw me over on the money side of things. The way i look at it do what i can with what i have and in years to come if i find more money then maybe i will go and enjoy myself and do more things that cost a fair bit but for now im happy with just ticking over and having a little bit of money to do the odd bits i like.

Sorry if i have bored you or it doesnt make sence been writing this inbetween doing work jobs

I won't lie either, I do love the car.. But do I really need THIS one?
I see how much I have paid out over the last three years of having new cars - and not anymore for having changed the car to a newer one - but I just think I could have bought a fairly decent one after a few months of saving.. And detailing it as well.. I think because I know I'm not going to be able to do it so well when I'm at uni I have given up for now.. And I start off doing it ok but when it comes to polishing and waxing every few months I just think I cba!!

But then as Karl says, after not driving it for a few days I fall in love again... It's a hard thing to think what to do.. But I'm not going to sell up or get a new one just yet :-D

Can't say I have felt like this as of yet, simply because my reasons for getting the car are very different.
In the past I'd happily blow cash on whatever I never had anything to show for it but major hangovers and getting into the wrong crowed etc.
So now that I've basically got all my partying and holidaying out of the way. (for a while anyways)
I decided I'd chuck my cash into something I felt worthwhile and I'd have something to show for my hard earned cash. Thus far I think it is probably one of the best decisions I have made.

So I'm not the only one!

At the moment my life consists of a slow social life and very busy work life. Working two jobs means my time is sparse and when I'm free I'm seeing the girlfriend, leaving evenings free only to see friends. When im with the girlfriend all we do is driving about and not doing much else, so my fuel out goings are high and then I can't afford to do much else. I love the car and that won't change but I've a feeling my life is about ready to have a shake up.

jesus, wait until you have kids. I have trained myself to function on about five hours sleep just so I can get stuff done. Detailing isnt doesnt come into the stuff category.

I think I see my car quite differently. I have done the expensive and quick car thing. The twingo for me is a work horse, does the nursery run etc fine, doesnt cost a lot to run, and takes the abuse when work / life pisses me off. Im not saying i dont care about it, i simply use it as a car. Every now and then I do think that maybe I should give in a buy something better suited, ie vectra size etc but that will be a very very sorry day. Its only costing me £100 a month minus fuel (+£80is).

At this point I would have to lob money at the family car as this would be something all four of us use abuse and enjoy. As long as my car has low costs, does the job and puts a smile on my face im happy.

Really not hating on the car at all, in fact I still love it. But it's my situation/priorities that have changed some what. I just want to be debt free (tbh I'm not massively in debt and not in the position of negative equity so it's not all bad news, I just don't like it hanging over me) and reduce my monthly out goings to something more reasonable! What with study, car, savings, house keep as soon as the money comes in a good £700-£800 comes out before I've ever touched it and whilst i still keep living an okay life style I'd rather live that life style and save cash so that my house becomes a reality and i can see the people i want to!

ALso, there's so many things in the world I've not seen yet. And I want to!

With the commute I do every day, I think I can't keep the car. I need a diesel. As soon as its paid off, warranty runs out and had it's 1st mot, its got to go. Renault have made me an amazing offer to get another one and I cant take it due to the running costs. I'm 26 and still live at home and 350 a month on paying for it and insuring it and then 310 quid I use a month to fuel it is just
Too much. Then I drive it hard down some amazing roads and everything changes. I want the car all over again but the sensible head needs to come on. I want to move out and want my freedom. plus I can only just get my bike in the Twingo and that's being used a lot more now

If your doing this once paid off can you not keep it as a fun car and buy a old deisel car?

Yeah, he could - but then there is two sets of insurance, 2 sets of tax and servicing and mots! Plus with the sale of the car I'm sure would pay for the next one??

Yeah exactly. I was telling Neil I was tempted to take it off the road, buy a 2nd engine and do something special with it but it means so much money that could be spent on a house, social time etc. Plus extra maintenance costs. Not what I need. Got it Courtney, selling up and buying something else with the cash.

Well I've thought about it.

I'm going to make myself a basic detailing kit. Enough to look after purely the cars at home and perhaps my best mates (as I promised I would when he gets it). The rest (all the fancy bits...) are going. i just can't justify them. I'm going to go through ym room and have a good clear out of crap I don't want/use anymore. I know I'll feel better then.

I've booked a flight for a short trip away around christmas so will take a good holiday and have a good think about my next step then (as my exam will be out the way). I've dusted the bike off and will give it a good clean this weekend and iwll cycle into work. If I do keep the car, I might as well try and make it as cheap as possible and levae it as more of a treat. As for spending, I'm sure there's loads of crap I can cut out...

So far I've managed to save enough to book my lads holiday away next summer and hopefully at least one between. not been abroad since I was 17 and there's so many places I want to see/do!

I hope this is a good move

Sounds good! all the best luck! and out of interest, where will you go around christmas?

Haha, as soon as you said italy i new why :p

Where are you guys going next year then? I was thinking Ibiza... But then i was thinking i need to increase the mortgage lol

I've never thought about it like that. End of the day when buying my car I knew I had to buy new as I wanted something that would be reliable, cheap to run and get me about.

I personally don't see the point in buying a 'banger'; why? Think about it. An old shed is more likely to have problems and break down and need new parts and be unreliable; if you calculate how much you would spend repairing and running a banger to keep it on the road and comparing that to the cost of a new car - well I know which I'd rather!! :)

haha we're going spain fior benicassim! As well as another road trip to france to make a film (my best friend is a director making an independant film)

as for italy, that's just gonna eb a short, cheap trip to get away

I just feel like selling up, getting myself debt free and making do with a banger so I can actually see the places I want to and actually get saving for a house.

this is the reason i never bought the megane i wanted sooo badly  there is no way on earth i could justify the massive costs/debt i would be getting myself in for no real reason.

it was a car, which wasnt practical and i prob would of been bored with after a year and it was the price of a healthy house deposit

apart from my mortgage i have never borrowed money, if i want something then i save for it.

even tho cars are my biggest hobby/passion i would much rather buy an older car for a fraction of the cost of a newer car. it will do the same job and because it is costing you alot less it means you will have more cash to spend on it,
and you may even find that by doing stuff to the car yourself you not only learn abit more about it but you enjoy it more :?

means could still have a nice, fun, modded car but you could also stick abit away for savings and have a hol or 2 a year!!

How i see it. Also maintenance etc isn't something that bothers me, I've got a tool kit and a head I like to think is quite screwed on and could tackle a lot of jobs myself on the drive. But I've just worked it out, I've got £4k to pay on the twingo (much less than I actually thought). So I will try and repay this as soon as. The credit card has gone. Leaving me one last debt to pay for some exam stuff (quite an expensive bill actually amounting to more than the car...!) and once I've done that. My goal will be achieved. I reckon by next summer I can be totally debt free... Then I'm good to start exploring.

Decision made on the fact I love the car, and better the devil you know n all. Plus I don't owe that much on it. Just gonna limit my driving even further and save hard for a bit.

All my detailing stuff will start to go up for sale tonight :) and I mean basically all!
