Hi,

Just recently bought an 08 twingo gt, with about 84k on the clock. love the car but have a few questions/concerns that I'm hoping someone here can help answer.
Car is standard and unmodified.

First is really a question of how it drives. It is very 'on/off' with power delivery, where there is very little power, turbo kicks in and off it goes. it's a very clear 'boom' theres the turbo so i wasn't sure if this is normal or perhaps suggests an issue. Turbo seems to pull well.

Second issue and more concerning is that over 4k on full throttle (never under) there is a rattling/tapping noise from the engine bay but it isn't noticeable if just driving through that rev range slowly, only at WOT. Wasn't sure if this is something to worry about or if there are common things that might cause this. no unusual noises at any other rev range below that.

Third and last thing is that when starting car for first time when its cold it seems a bit jerky to drive in first gear/second til its warmed up a bit then no issue at all. Otherwise drives smoothly. No idle issues at all or anything like that
Oil, plugs and filter just changed and none of these helped these issues out.

I didn't know if maybe they were all related, were just quirks of the car or what.. so any advice appreciated.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Guy

Hi, all TCE cars have a little trouble changing gear when they have very little temperature, my old car was the same and my wind is also, you have to keep them on the turbo or you have very little power, not sure what you mean by the boom, the tappet noise you describe is common too, they are a little noisy but the noise usually goes after a long run probably due to the oil heating up,

If you're at quarter or half throttle let the revs go up to 3000 rpm you'll feel the turbo kick in a considerable amount.

I've never had the tapping noise from above 4K rpm. So I can't comment on that but all twingos are known to kangaroo upon starting. That's just an issue with the ECU mapping. You could either get it remapped by a tuning company to get it fixed or go to Renault and get the most recent map.

ah thanks for the info,

yeah the boom i meant was more like, the turbo kicking in is very obvious. having had a few turbo cars in the past (fiat coupe and mr2 turbo) they all seem a lot smoother i guess in how that power is delivered! just wasn't sure if a problem or a characteristic :)

yeah the noise above 4k only at wide open throttle, its kind of metallic tappy noise. hard to describe. Only way i guess to describe it is its like say a toyota when tvis kicks in (or like honda vtec) and there is a very noticeable change of engine sound, but on those cars that sound is there at high rpm all the time, not only at WOT. My sound is similar to that however it doesn't sound normal especially given in the same rev range if I'm not foot to floor the sound isn there or is very hard to hear.

Thanks for the info on the kangarooing, thought it might be normal but better to check and likewise on the power delivery, sounds like mine is normal in that regard, awesome!

what plugs did you put in? the non turbo 1.2, uses different plugs, it will run like a bag of ***** with the wrong plugs.

Plugs were ngk ILKAR7A7 (bought them direct from renault to make sure got the right ones).
The ones i removed were ILKAR7A7B ( i think )

hey,

ran mostly the same with the new plugs, didn't really notice a differnce!
