Hi everyone.
Fitted a new Sony head unit to replace poor standard one, fitted the Fakra to din adaptor lead fine.
But now notice reception is far poorer than before, has anyone else had this/know how to resolve it?

Does the original aerial have power going to it? Could it be that new stereo has loom wired differently so powered amp is no longer powered?

Any suggestions would be appreciated as I can't put up with the crackling!

i seem to have the same issue but not that badly although i have a poineer unit if that makes any difference :S

when fitting the unit i take it you put an ariel adaptor in the back, im sure it wont work without one so it may just be loose?
 
Mine is alpine and I bought the same kind of adaptor, and it still was very very poor. Tried another, supposedly even higher quality version and still the same result so that went back. I gave up after that
 
Definitely put the aerial in the back of the Sony, pushed it in as far as it would go, the other end (fakra) made a reassuring "click" as I pushed into the cars aerial lead. So no idea.

Can't think why rubbish factory fit stereo had perfect reception & now it hasn't unless the cars aerial was amplified and now isn't.

Nothing is ever simple with cars.......
 
Or Renault electrics. I can't get the stalk controls to work, Ive tried both the available cables and nothing worked. Apparently most audio places havent touched twingos either so can't comment
 
I thought briefly about buying a steering control lead but was put off by the price, glad I didn't bother!

Has anyone fitted a new stereo and had no problems with the radio reception?

There must be a way to make it work.
 
I had a similar problem, put a spot of copper grease in the screw thread of the ariel ( on the roof, not behind the stereo) that should help a little bit .. Did with mine anyway.

As for the steering wheel controls I got mine working for 20 quid, bought an adaptor off amazon that was meant for an older clio. Worked perfectly .. Its out of the car at the moment while I keep taking the radio in and out for wrapping the stereo surround.

I think I posted the link on the other forum and it worked for a gt owner- I'll have a look later if the other forum isn't still all virus'y.

ah! thankyou!

saves me a job trecking over there getting my computer all infected. as singlespeed said- that adapter fitted my car and worked, im presuming other twingos are the same... but with renault there are no guarantees!

I think I'll purchase one of those leads, got to be worth a go.
I'll also try the aerial fix see if that helps.

no worries. make sure you email the seller specifying that you need a sony patch lead. (this plugs into a 3.5mm jack in the back of the head unit if i remember correctly
 
Tried the copper grease on aerial mast thread, now I seem to get much improved reception! Thanks.
Ordered an amplified fakra to din lead adaptor to further improve reception.

Then I'll have a go at the steering control lead, that's if I have any room left behind the stereo! Bit tight to say the least.
 
A useful thing to do to fit the extra wires in is poke the existing wires ( once connected) down to the sides of the stereo housing. Its rather snug but does go in :)
