have you done the timing on any engines before steve? the timing belt on this engine is simple .... just take the bloody belt of and put the new one on, no locking tools required. single overhead cam and all that! nothing fancy whatsoever. i wouldn't bother my arse paying 350-600 (600 renault dealership obviously) on the timing belt! make sure you get a new waterpump as well as all the tensioners for the timing belt, whilst there you'll want to do the aux belt and tensioner + idler pulley! easy peasy, not just because i'm a mechanic .... just easy peasy in general. too much scare mongering from arseholes who are greedy to take your money who'd want to make you believe you need fancy tooling!
