Hi guys,

Some may recognise the username. I'm a member of ClioSport.net and own a Sunflower yellow Ph1 172...

Pre-CSS Detail - OM NOM!! by Harpham PT, on Flickr

I've spotted a Twingo in a local garage, which looks great, so I was looking for a bit of info really.

It's a 58 plate.
Grey colour
£6k - Is that a good price? I was thinking more along the lines of £5k tbh...
33,000 miles
What defines whether it has Cup Packs? It has anthracite alloys, but a smaller spoiler from other Twingos i've seen. It has the aircon, which means its a normal 133 doesn't it?

Any info or other ads that are local to me (Notts) that may interest me, would be greatly appreciated. :D

Cheers.

Is this the sunflower with reverse rake when loaded up for detailing? If so I read the thread and wanted the car not long ago!

Hi and welcome :)

If it's got the aircon or climate control it means it's not a 133 CUP. (another telling sign is that the FF 133 has split folding/sliding rear seats, where the 133 CUP has a bench).

The only ways we've conclusively been able to to see if a 133 has the cup chassis (as in if it was specced as an extra making a FF 133 + Cup chassis) are
1) Phone someone at Renault with the number plate/VIN
2) Have a look at the rear springs. If you can see some little purple tags on them - it's the cup chassis. https://www.twingo133.net/post133071.html

There are two different spoilers on 133s. The GT spoiler which came as standard on pre-facelift 133s

And there's the RS spoiler which was an option on pre-facelift 133s and is standard on facelift 133s

Oh and it's a full fat, but may have cup chassis. Wheels make it sound so, but the real check will be purple marks on the springs and struts. £6k seems a little overpriced to me.

Edit - beaten to it by a much better structured post! I'm tempted to abuse power to delete it

Additionally, at a garage I don't think around 6 is a bad price for that - the cheapest similar appears to be around £5,500 on autotrader - and that one's blooming miles away, so maybe just some good haggling down towards 5.5 or getting the 5yr belt & water pump change service done. Having said that there aren't really any local 133s on autotrader in the notts area.

Cheers for that info guys. Ill just have to check up on the Cup Chassis part, as id like to think id be buying a 133 with that tbh.
I do love the look of it though. I don't think £6k is a bad price from the dealer, going on my research on others for sale. Id still be wanting to wangle the price down though to around £5250-5500.

Is the cambelt change an expensive job, same as on the 172's? Or relatively straightforwards? You never know, it may have already been done if it's FSH, as it is on that 5 year mark now.

Yes. Yes it is. ;) (stance is normal when not full of detailing stuff in the boot lol)

It's staying with me though, unless somebody decides to offer ridiculous money lol.

I've just checked with my local specialist (Diamond Motors). He charges around £370, so it's a little less than a 1*2, but again, that'll be something ill have to check before buying.

Hi Harpham

Another old time Cliosporter here. Met you at Calverton a while back with some detailing gear for you when you had your racing blue 200 with the cup spoiler :D

Hope you're well fella.

Take note that the Twingo Cup chassis is probably the most aggressive cup pack on a Renaultsport compared to non-cup.
I had a non-cup 133 Gordini and the ride was almost the same as my 182 Cup.

I had some great drives in mine, only warranty niggles and poor customer service made me chop it in.
Engine note is cracking with the airbox bung removed, a sounds youd have to pay a good few notes for in a Clio.

He's a great lad Mick is.
First started using him at new year.

He's done the belts, electrical diagnosis/repairs, service, top struts mounts and brakes on the 182 this year, I was very happy using him, will continue while ever we've got the Renault.
He did me Brembo HC discs and pads for a crazy price.

Ahh yes, I remember!! :)

I sold the 200 a good 2 years ago now and moved back to ph1 goodness lol. Always had this Twingo itch though, so nows the time to scratch it ;).
Would you say not having the cup chassis is an essential then? On the Clios it is something that I wouldn't even consider buying without.

Mick is awesome tbf. He always sorts me out. No other garage is allowed to touch my car.

If you read the EVO reviews, new or old, they love the Cup chassis for track, but they recommend the standard chassis for everyday driving.

I've only driven my Twingo which was standard chassis on the 17" cup wheels, which was plenty hard enough.
Nice and compliant on poor surfaces though bizarrely enough.

Cup chassis isn't that bad for daily driving tbh. I've been in worse (FN2 being more uncomfortable). It's stiff, but certainly well sorted.

I knew it was that car! I want :p

My favourite colour  I much prefer this to LY which everyone seems to mess themselves over

There you go then.
Like I say Ive only driven the non cup.

My EP3 suspension was harder than the 182 cup.
