Hi all you speedy Renault owners. I am new to this forum so hello to you all.
I have a 2009 Renault 133 Cup that has never passed an MOT since new. I have done 27000 miles in it and last MOT it was basically condemned. I only drive my car to work, to school and back and to be fair although it is a fast little thing I rarely thrash it as I have my 7 year old with me most of the time. So, MOT before last it failed on Track rod ends and wishbone, just out of warranty but renault did the work and told me they would give the work 60,000 miles or 3 year warranty for parts and workmanship. So 12 months on and this MOT it failed one wait for it...... track rod ends, NSF, Handbrake mechanism had actually started to come away from the chassis (WTF) emissions, YES EMISSIONS, NSF Rack end and the airbag. Now the airbag light has been a problem since it was purchased and has been in and out of the garage numerous times for fix. The renault dealership it went to basically didn't replace the part which is a worry as I ride around with my daughter in it, I'll leave the picture in your heads of an accident where the airbag didn't deploy and a 7 YO brains splattered over the dashboard.
Rear brakes were bound on, front discs and pads gone and because of the front suspension being knackered the inner part of the tyre was ripped and as its a run flat was just holding itself together, I just wanted to know if any other of you on here had had anything similar to my experience. My car is 5 years old BUT it has been looked after and driven like Miss daisy as I am not really one for racing about the streets like a nutter (I value my license as I am getting on a bit
Renault are saying that the work carried out last year has no warranty now and that the cost to get the car back on the road for parts that I would not expect to be needing replacing is £850. Any advice for me at all.
Many Thanks

Emissions is not uncommon. Ensure the car (and crucially the cat) is hot before the test.

These cars do seem quite fragile for suspension components. Lower ball joints, track rod ends are common. The ball joints are very common and you should push for Renault to meet part of the cost of this work. This is going to be the lions share of the work, I imagine £500+ of the quote.

I know its not nice that Renault may of bodged your airbags but having a 7 year old child in the front seats with the airbag switched on isn't recommended. The forces are to great for young children. The switch is on the right hand side of the door i think and can be accessed with the door open.

The lower wishbones have been a long running issue, with the boots splitting and then the joint wearing out quickly once water and grit gets in. If the rubber boot is just starting to split and the joint is still tight, the boot could be replaced for a fraction of the cost of a whole arm/wishbone.

Track rod ends. Yes, again the boots can split. Replacements from a decent manufacturer like Febi or Lemfoder will get you something decent, without the dealer mark up to add a part number and Renault sticker on the packet.

Front discs and pads. Well, they are going to wear out eventually, much like tyres. Have a look on kamracing for brembo hc discs and a set of pads, which would be a bit less than Renault price.

Runflats!!! They shouldnt be, unless you have changed the rims. XL rating of some low profile tyres just affects the amount of load they can carry and the tyre pressure for it. If you ran it flat, thats going to destroy the sidewall very quickly... check the pressures regularly.

Airbag light could be the conector just under the front edge of the seat. Probably needs a wiggle.

Emissions. Decent oil and change of oil and air filter, then a bit of a thrash to get it fully warmed up

Thanks guys, Tyres were ones that were fitted at dealer so no idea why they put on run flats, I know the wear and tear parts are not covered so I have found some awesome ones for half of what renault wanted to charge and they are good so that will save me a fortune. The rims are standard cup chassis ones, prob wouldn't change them as I like them. You wouldn't expect the track rod ends that were replaced last MOT to wear out in 12 months though would you?? I have only done 2000 miles in 12 months!

I didnt think there were any runflat tyres avaliable in the 195/40/17 or 205/40/17 sizes.

Good call. Will get them checked. Probably all coked up as it runs like a bag of knackers when it's cold too. It's like a car possessed :)

Apparently mine has them. Standard 133 Cup Chassis wheels. The mind boggles
Indeed it does boggle. I'd hazard a guess that you don't have any of the markings for runflats on the sidewalls of your tyres, mentioned here>>>
Run-flat tyres

Run-flat tyres let you keep going for 50 miles

Run-flat tyres are an increasingly popular type of tyre. If you have a puncture on your journey or if the tyre deflates, a run-flat tyre supports the vehicle weight so you can travel for about another 50 miles, at a maximum speed of 50mph.

There are many markings that could indicate your tyre is a run-flat tyre, including DSST, RFT, ROF and RunFL.

Run-flat tyres and traditional car tyres should not be mixed on the same car, as it could affect your car’s handling.

Tyresafe advises run-flat tyres should not be used on cars without a pressure monitoring system, which is used to alert you of a deflation or puncture.
195/40/17 81W XL. XL for Extra load would be my bet, but thats not a runflat.

Posibly had some water collecting in the spark plug hole which then starts corroding where the coil sits ontop of the plug, so you get a weak spark. The two plugs on the left side of the car are usually the ones affected as water leaks through the windscreen scuttle panel ( the black plactic trim below the screen)
