Around a year ago I decided i was sick of gillettes prices and rather poor quality shaves so decided to do some research.

The result is I spent rather a lot to start but shaves are now cheaper per shave, much more comfortable and also seem to last a little longer (although that is debatable). Less shaving rash and I now can even come to enjoy having a shave.

I bought myself a merkur 1904 Gillette replica to start which has since been changed to a 34c which I prefer with the slant and the slight difference in weight and the length of the handle. I've tried several de blades and so have my favourites are derby or feathers, feathers I think just edge it in terms of a quality shave.

For soap it's Taylor's of old bond street for me too with a nice (although I am unsure of the brand off the top of my head) badger brush.

Anyone else enjoy a de blade or just a plastic piece of crap? What have you tried, it's addictive trying new blades etc

I can't use razors. I have thick double hair folicles, so no matter what direction i shave, i get an ingrown hair. So i permenantly have a little bit of shadow that i just trim with a phillips shaver (was £60 at asda, when i got to the till, barcode wouldn't work and the guy must have typed in a different number, only paid £4.80 xD!. Would love to be able to have a clean shave with no ingrown hairs though!

I know of people with similar hair who are those who recommended it to me in the first place. Honestly the best shave you could get ;)

Just to find what is best for you.

bloody hate shaving.. i trim instead. All hair exactly the same length, and i do mean all hair!

I'm never clean shaven. I use one of those istubble trimmer things. I don't like being clean shaven

Ahh well i do also own a trimmer ;)

And a full wharl set of trimmers for my head too :p

I used to hate it too, but now I take my time (a good shave every 3 days is most comfortable that takes about 20 mins if i do it right)

Ha that is a valid point but my boss tells me I'm a tramp so have to sort it out, especially as I've spent the last few weeks out a big clients :(

May have to try! ;)

I may have a plastic version of a de and some blades that someone gave to me to try out originally. Has been steamed and the blades new of course ;) welcome to them if you want to try them out.

The difference between an expensive one and the plastic versions is mostly weight. You do not press against your skin the weight of the razor is enough. And they're much more comfortable to use and hold and handle as such. But it's a place to start

When I started someone kindly donated these to me from another forum and I tried a few of the blades by the time I found one that worked for me and the rest I've kept with the intention of passing them on!

Oh and the one I currently enjoy using is this

Thanks for the offer, but don't worry, i'll stick to trimming for now and maybe buy one in the future! Have to wait until theres a time i can get away with the risk of ingrown hairs.

I don't mind a bit of stubble but work moans :/ so it's a bit of a pain.

I currently use a Gillette fusion for the closer shave and smooth feeling after, for me it only lasts about half a day as im a beast, and the flexible head is rather handy on those delicate areas ;)

I do need to purchase a trimmer at somepoint as my gorilla chest takes a little to long with a comb an scissors, an well scissors near some areas are less than desirable, don't fancy a versectamy just yet!

I'm lucky; work doesn't care what I look like as long as I can do my work :) -> Lazy beard!

I hate shavin. I leave it till it starts to itch then r shave it off. My dad shaves everyday dunno how he dose it

Cant stand shaving! I just use an electric and go for the stubble look when I can be arsed!

Wow so I seem to be the only one who is keen on the finer points of shaving

your a little oddity aren't you ;)

I'd go full on bitchin beard but the mrs would remove all the perks of a relationship until I shaved it off.

No I know some women like Stubble or even beards. My ex liked the stubble. But not all do. Can leave em red raw
