Since I'm slowly getting into running thought I'd post a thread up for discussion as there isn't one.

How the hell do people enjoy running? I have only been for a run around town and all I get is fumes blown in my face by exhausts!

Yet to try some random running in the country, would you drive somewhere like a park and run with a camelback or just run and drink when you finish the run?

And more questions but has anyone got anything to secure your phone and keys so they don't flap around in your pocket and risk dropping them?

To be honest mate, i put my ipod in and run until i get tired and try to run further than before each time. I dont do it in distance, i do it in time. I started at 10 mins and now im up to about 45mins. Kinda stuck there at the min.

I try and mix it up, run round the roads, turn into the park and then run back. Try and do it backwards and take other routes.

Running can get boring and can be hard on ankles and knees etc but its also very good stress relief and a good time to think about stuff.

I take my door key and ipod with me and use shorts with zip pockets.

Running is pretty crap when you start out to be totally honest but you just need to break into it and once your body gets used to going (usually takes about 2 weeks of running every other day) it'll be much more enjoyable.
As for running with water there's not really any need unless you're running half marathons, I just see it as more to carry, just make sure you're hydrated before you head out and drink as required when you get back :)
When it comes to keys and phones I never really take them but when I have to take my keys I just stick then in the zip pocket on my shorts.

Hope that helps if you have any more questions just ask :)

You could try https://www.zombiesrungame.com/ if you get really bored.

It's been awhile since I've ran. I used to do roughly 1 and a half hours a day 5 days a week with my dog (so quite a few 30 second pauses along the way).
I find I just switch off my thinking when I run so I don't get very bored but I always have upbeat music playing or audiobooks playing

At the moment im trying to get my best 1mile time on a treadmill for more of a cardio workout, got it down to 6minutes!

I only really use running to warm up, normally just a 10-15 mins run, nothing spesh!

I'm useless on the treadmill but my first timed attempt at a 1.5 mile run on one before any training was about 13.30 which I guess isn't bad since I only started running that week.

Ideally I want to be aiming to knock 3 minutes within 1-2 months if that's possible!

Aim high! Run fast ;)

Youl need to be running between 9-10mph to nock that kinda time off! Good luck ;)

Haha well an 8 minute mile and a half would be perfect and I'd fly through all the fitness and training with relative ease :p

Best way to knock time off for a mile and a half is to jog for 15-20 mins to make sure you are properly warmed up and then do 20seconds sprinting (100% max effort) and then 10 seconds resting (walk or stand still your choice) try for 8 times through to start with and then build it up every week by one set.

For what is actually less than 3 minutes worth of hard running you will be absolutely hanging out, and it works trust me!
Do that 4 times a week and you'll smash the fitness test!

As I said earlier you'll shave off a good minute after a week anyway just because your body will get used to being out of breath

Decent trainers, that's my bit of advice.

I do a lot of running as I need to be fit for my job. And spending the extra money on decent trainers that are suited to my feet make it so much easier to enjoy it.

I mainly run at a place called Gartmorn Dam, it's a 2.75 mile circuit and me & my friend do this every 2nd day. Suggestions would be a decent pair of running shoes and a water bottle or camelback if you don't want to carry a bottle around.

I also run up Dumyat and go runs round Stirling Uni. Beautiful views, so I usually stop a few times for a few seconds to grab a pic!

Assuming you can tab ;)

Just got to have a good pain threshold or the ability not to gives a poo to be able to tab!

Music.. That is all i need, also just got back from my gym which has tv screens on the bikes, was watching top gear, totally forgot i was even on the bike and did 25 minutes no problem!

I need to get out for a run this time off. It was all going so well, but thats nearly three months without doing anything. So, its time to hit the trails again now I can get out to the woods... See what new trails the Enduro club have carved out :) Back in January, I ran one of their loops in 38 minutes and a friend did it a few days later in 35 minutes on an Enduro motorcross bike  I doubt I'd repeat that time now.

Matty. If you trail run, theres some great areas nearby

Waitey - you training for something?

I think he's training for an army fitness test :) which (for the running part at least) is 1.5 miles in 10.30 at the minimum

Is there any set routes around Neil? Ill have to explore. I've done the run to Elgin on the path twice now, will need to come up with some new routes.

10.30 will be easy enough, good luck!
