My sister is looking to change her clio diesel- she does a load of miles and works at the top of a huge hill near us ( the clee) so she really uses the diesel engine for its tourqey pull and the mpg even when pushing the engine hard.

A 133 looks the biz she says - but the mpg figures are pathetically small for what she needs, so a petrol.... Although very very awesome, will never be considered.

My question - is the twingo diesel ever coming to these shores? As she likes the car/ride etc... But hates all the petrol engines.

From the current look of things, it looks doubtful it will come over here. Is the GT not better economy? (And still quite low range torquey)

She currently gets 72mpg (or so the trip computer thing says) from her clio - and she drives it very hard up the hill.

I have heard that some of the gt's on here get as little as 35mpg, my extreme gets 42 at a push.
To be honest - my sister just hates petrol engines.

Sucks that the diesel isn't coming - an 86 hp engine in a clio with the tourque of a diesel would be great fun :)

She does a lot of miles - its a 10 plate and is currently one 64 thousand miles. This has been fine up until now but things are starting to need doing that are out of warranty. She doesn't have the car on any of these finance deals or anything - its all paid for with savings -
As she lives alone in a small house with a well paid job she has managed to save up the cost (nearly) of a new twingo - as she spends a lot of her time in her car, she needs it to be a reliable and nice place to be.

So, to answer - nothing wrong with the clio - but with the costs allready incurred, those soon to follow and the savings available - a change is needed.

She had a go in my twingo, apart from saying that the engine is a gutless miserable unit (agreed) she loved the handling, looks and ride. Shame the diesel engine isn't coming here :(

Okay the GT may not be as economical as a diesel but it's still good, I can average about 39+ around town and about 50 on motorway... A standard gt I'm sure would do better though.

Wouldn't replacing thr car be more expensive than maintaining it?

I gotta agree, as appealing as it is to buy a new car the cost of running a current car is more often than not cheaper. Give it a full service, cambelt etc and it'll be good. A dci engine should be good for a lot more than 64k!

If on the other hand she just fancies a new car then fair play!

Sadly a diesel Twingo doesn't look likely but perhaps a RenaultSport Megane dci if she can find one but they're probabl out of warranty now too.

The finances of running it aren't really an issue due to the cost- its more the fact that as it goes up in the miles, the car begins to age and become less reliable - especially the way she drives them.

Her clio is very nice and well cared for- she has had it from when it was on about ten miles only. The amount she has spent on it to keep it in good health is quite high - yet never been an issue.

She only really wants a new one as she spends a very large part of her life behind the wheel- this is actually her lowest mileage car yet, and she really would like to get rid of it before it has to be sold for a stupid price.
She has test driven a large selection of cars (ka, fiesta, golf, fabia vrs, megane.... Even that god awful looking "up" thing ) and as yet has been most impressed when she borrowed my car for work for a few days - apart from the fact it was a petrol ( an awful one at that)
She's gutted that there is no diesel - just been out with her looking at a clio tom tom dci for just over ten k.... Yawn

is it the 68, 86 or106 diesel?
Haven't checked but I'm guessing the 68.. was following a friend in his Skoda Fabia 1.2 Diesel and I couldn't even keep up with him.

I would get depressed driving something like this every day :(

But I did drive a Twingo GT diesel as a previous courtesy car and that was suprisingely nice to drive.

the smaller diesel isnt very fun at all - I had a rental clio campus diesel 68 on holiday and it was a bit slow - like 1.2 but with none of the initial (if small amount of ) power.

the dci 106 dynamique s clio my sister had was a very nice car, plenty of power for the size... the 86 i music she has now is slightly less impressive.

Well my mom drives the Megane coupé which has the 1.5 dci 105 horsepower and thats a whole different feeling. Lots more torque and the transmission doesn't feel like a sponge..

The same engine in my wife's qashqui+2 is spot on, lugs the weight around admirably. Never going to win any traffic light gp's but in town it's punchy enough and happy on the motorway at cruising speeds returning nearly 50mpg.

A twingo with the 106 diesel engine would be great - an economy minded gt, a good seller in my book.

Howabout the 175 DCI engine, that would make it an economical flyer! RS 200 speed...

That would be brilliant in my book - wonder if it would even fit in the engine bay!
