6 hours labour or 7 hours max + parts + vat, and that's coming from a renault trained mechanic who knows the book time like the back of my hand eddie :)

167 seems fair for the full clutch kit though, no doubt that will be a valeo kit which is the same clutch that came fitted from factory .. just not in a renault box, which means no premium price markups!

My working out of it are £697 - 167 = 530 ÷9 = 58 an hour labour. There an independent was always impressed with how cheaply they've got my misses car through its mot, maybe my breast aren't large enough. Rarely deal with garages tbh.

Can't remember how much mine was off the top of my head, but it was nowhere near that much!
It's a shame it's not easier tbh or it could be a DIY job :(

can easily do it over a weekend, the only trouble you'll encounter is supporting the engine .. that's about it. aligning the clutch is a laugh if you haven't got the tool ; a pencil and cellotape wrapped around the pencil till it's thick enough to stick in the input spline hole thing (brain fart!) with no movement and then you're good to fit the clutch and pressure plate. basic tools too, you'd need a torque wrench though!

Cars ready to be picked up and the garage has said the diff in the gearbox is ****** so the car is a write off in my eyes. Anyone got an input into how likely this is or have the garage buggered something up? I'm clutching at straws here I know.

Don't think Twingos have diffs? Lol but I could be wrong

because you luke, are a fanny!!!! :p hahaha
offcourse it has a differential. it's a mechanical differential, it's what allows you to go around a corner allowing the outside wheel to rotate at a different speed from the inside wheel as the outside wheel travels a greater distance. it's just a basic planetary and sun gear set up, when one wheel looses traction it allows the other one to spin.... if you want to see how it works, jack the front right hand side of your car up and with the other front left wheel on the ground .. start your engine and pop the car into first gear. :) the jacked up wheel will spin.

eddie, what did they say about the diff other than it's ''humped'' what was the actual diagnosis?

you could, but what condition is it going to be in internally? boxes don't come with service history unfortunately, your only option is a reconditioned box which costs 700+ pounds where as i can get you one from the breakers and then rebuild it for you and then post it for 400'ish. i'd on only be able to rebuild it over the weekend on my down time though.

Drive the car till it goes pop then drive to a dealers in first happy days :p

I appreciate the offer but I'm in to the car for too much already I'm cutting my losses and part ex it :(. I'm self employed if I can't get to work I'm screwed! The garage helpfully changed the clutch for me then I can only assume had an educated guess to what the possible cause of the noise was which is still there and a snip at 700 big ones. Feel like going on a rampage.

The noise hasn't cured now then? Could've said 99% it was the clutch

No the noise is a prominent as ever I examined the parts they took off the bearing was rough but couldn't have accounted for the noise I don't think still a bit of meat on the clutch housing looked normal???

Only thing to add is clutch has a judder on the bite point but just bedding in? The noise is most noticeable in the higher gears 3rd to 5th.

try changing your gearbox oil, check the technical stuff area. first thread for the how to, it could make a world of difference. i've seen the most god awful of transmission noises cured by a simple oil change, your cars fluids probably never been changed?

Changed it when I started hearing the noise plus the garage must have with the new clutch so twice in a few weeks.

uhh ... well your last point of actions going to be to jack the car up on the front left hand side onto an axle stand with the front right wheel on the ground. get inside the car, start the engine and stick it into first gear (it's not going to drive away.), the wheel in the air will spin. get underneath the car, get a long screwdriver and stuck it on the diff casing (directly where the driveshaft goes into) and press thes screwdriver onto the casing ; put the handle up to your ear, use it as a listening device. you'll hear disgusting noises if it's humped. if you don't hear anything abnormal, then your diffs going to be fine.

unfortunately, there is no replacement for a good mechanic. gutted that you're not close to glasgow otherwise i'd gladly get to the route of the problem. i know these cars inside and out.

I'll give it a bash tomorrow and report back. If the diff is not the cause it's the actual gears?
