I've read everything still not 100% sure on what it is but it's helping the cause :)

I'm running it on an i5-650 and 7GB of DDR3 RAM

That will romp on.

I have my work laptop (i5-460m) on the job 24/7

that should make some progress.

Think of it like the biggest load of homework projects you have just been given. Now hand them around to your mates to do one each... Thats what Stamford Uni are doing.

i wonder if your pc is like inactive at night can the program maybe use more cores and more memory then ? , cause i somethimes leave my pc on at night to just download things and then they can have my 6 cores at most of my free memory at their disposal i have the AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition (6 cores running @3.6 - 3.8GHZ) and 8 GB of DDR3 ;)

If you use the SMP client down the page here https://folding.stanford.edu/English/DownloadWinOther it will use any available cores.

The plan is the client will only use what is spare as other programs will have a higher priority

I'm not sure if it help but I change the priority on task manager to above normal when im not using my computer

If you have a decent graphics card, running the GPU software would help as it's a seperate client, utilising the processing power of the graghics card and it's memory  . Mines onboard built in, so rather pants :(

Trying to force more processing from the SMP client may cause heat issues unless you have good cooling, as it is rather intensive. I run 'Core Temp' to monitor the temps occasionaly

My graphics card is pants :/ it's a 1024MB GeForce 405

I use a program called speccy to keep on top of my temperatures

yes but those are beta clients and i dont want my PC to crash cause those guys wont be responsible for the damage

"As in the use of any beta software, please make sure to back up your hard drive before installing. DO NOT not run a beta client if you or your machines cannot tolerate even the slightest instability or problems"

I have been using the SMP client for a good while now, at least since v6.30 came out and have never had a problem on multiple machines. Of course this doesn't mean you will fair as well, use with caution as you say.

the old method was to set up run multiple instances of the the folding client, changing the 'machine number' setting for each one and then setting the CPU affity so each one ran on a separate core... bit of a pain in the ass.

Just finished my 3rd unit. Any idea's on how the score is calculated? Is it how quickly you go through a unit or something like that?

basicaly yes, but , some units are more complex and different sizes. So the score is also weighted on how complex the calculations are.

Ps3 units are relatively small and have a short window to complete them and have a fairly low score

Ahh ok cheers.

So how long before the team gets below the 10000 rank mark :p

At this rate, a day or two :)

A lot of the teams above us are old and haven't submitted any units recently. GhostZ is racking up the points and I should get few by the morning. I'm currently 92% as it was turned off for a while so not as finished as planned.

going to get this going on a couple of home threate pc's I have. both with pentium G850's. Wont rack up as many points as the 'i' range but every little helps.
