I had the same decision as you to make a while ago..decided to pay the price and stick with the contis...best ones for the car :)

Also, you get what you pay for...and grip is something i don't want to skimp on.

im gonna be trying maxxis next, been talking to a few people about them and they all say they are awesome tyres, not sure on the price yet but they do 195/40/17

I went from conti's to dunlop sportmaxx could not feel much difference in the tyres so guess thats a good thing since they are alot cheaper, do feel a bit more grip tho :)

Pzero's are excellent tires, my dad runs them on all his beemers. Don't know of they are available for the 133 though..

Falken ZE912 not so good, Falken FK452 outstanding and is just slightly cheaper then T1-Rs

sorry for posting this hear, looked through threads an didnt want to start a small one when it would help others with tyre sizes.

whats the sizing of the Cup alloys, is it 6.5"x17" or 7"x17"?

front will need replacing and tyres choice says safe (in my mind) limit is 225/45/17 or 215/40/17 on 7" max on 6.5" would be 225/50/17 or 215/50/17. both inch sizes could take a max of 235mm. *glad Toyo has a size and specs page, only half of the tyres brands do which is a shame

Orb. Will there be enough clearance at the , when you have some lock applied, as mentioned here>>>?
https://www.twingo133.net/wheels-and-tyres/205-r17s-t3112-3.html

Over 205/40/17, which has a finger width of clearance, as per the post above
215/40/17 will reduce the finger width gap by 4mm (depending on manufacturers design)
225/40/17 will be 8mm which could be do'able, but worth measureing and having a trial fit if you can
225/50/17 will be 30.5mm and my fingers aren't that fat to make it work ;)

I seem to recall them being 7j (as i was thinking 195's over 7j being pretty stupid for an OEM set up). I'm only going as wide as 205's as I believe it will rub any wider

cheers for reminding me about that.
tempted to see tyre place and have an old tyre fitted that was 215 sizing and see if it rubs. i wouldnt go for 225plus but nice to know that manufactures have tried and tested if they could be fitted. a nice 235 tyre footprint on a track, the grip would be great with some r888s hehe.
should hopefully see in the next month if 215s can go on the Cup and not rub at the front and will report back here :)

For it's weight and power, 195 to 205 should be sufficient, even on track.

Going larger will give you more hastle than it is worth, even it they fit:-
More drag
More noise
More likely to tramline
More likely to aquaplane
Less likely to get heat into the tyre to make it work as intended (R888)
Less predictable feel on the limit of grip, especialy in damp/wet
Higher center of gravity due to higher side wall
More unsprung mass, affecting steering feel, braking and acceleration
Unless keeping the same rolling diameter with something like a 30 profile, the change in gearing will be getting prety long and you may struggle getting into the power band so your top speed may be lower.

Possibility for it to grip, slip and then re-grip ending up on two wheels or rolling. I had 205's on a chinquecento sporting and came close to rolling a few times  went back to 185 afterwards. Wider is better to a point, then your going backwards
