aaaaarrrrrgggghhhhhhh

my laptop has just shut itself down!and when i turn it back on it wont let me connect to the internet or carry out any of even the simplest functions :(

this is the third time this has happened

the first time i gave it to the company who look after all of our computers at work and he sorted it all out and said i just needed to download this sofware which was free!
so i did and all was fine for a few months....

then it happened again  so i took it to a good family friend who works with computers for a living and know more than i will ever know about them!!
he said both of the anti-viruses i had were poo and that i needed to buy this anti-virus which is suposed to be the best thing ever!so i did and now a few months down the line its happened again

im gona take it to him 2moz and see what he says but it just drives me nuts!!
i dont really know alot about computers but its the biggest pain in the a*** and i just wondered if anyone else suffers from this crap??

its sooo hard not to just throw the dam thing at the wall
(sorry rant over)

buy a mac mate ;) stops things like this from happening. im not just saying it because i use one but it is true. saves so much hassle. my macs 4 years old now and its been virus free so far. Its not impossible to get one on a mac but its a heck of a lot harder.

I work in IT support training and all im doing at the moment is a training course in how to remove virus' from pcs because there everywhere. There has been a massive outbreak recently, windows system tools the virus is called so u may of picked that up.

once one is on the computer then it just opens up a hold and LOADS more appear quickly so best to deal with it as soon as u can

my laptop is a vaio and when i bought it it came with norton and macfee anti-viruses.

then the company at work told me to download advast anti-virus so i had 3 running!!

then my friend said they were all not that good and so uploaded his anti-virus which took over 4 hours to scan my laptop   and found 71 minor threats and 34 majors

it was so knackered that he said he was suprised it would even turn on so he took it away saved my data (that he could)and did a factory re-boot?

then installed his mega anti-virus (and some more ram and something else) and it has been like a new machine  its very quick etc etc

but 2nite some dirty little **** **** **** has sent me something and now it wont do anything!!

i have never used a mac mate so dont know what they are like but alot of the programs i use because of work dont/wont run on mac i think

just tried my laptop again and now it will only turn on in safe mode and i still cant do ANYTHING

if u can get into safe mode, try doing a system restore back to yesterday from start > all programs > accessories > system tools > system restore

also, if u can get into safe mode, shut the computer down, load into safe mode with networking, u should be able to get onto the internet from there and go to www.malwarebytes.org and download the free version and run a full scan with that, that should remove your virus.

having all those anti virus programs running together is probably the reason why u got the first virus because they will all conflict with each other and not remove anything

the mac - they have intel chipsets in them now which means you can run windows on them. id recommend this so u can still use your programs for work and then the mac operating system for the 'free time' ;)

nice one il give it a go and let you know!!!thanks mate

my vaio is about 2 years old now and has been a royal pain in the ...
altho it has been a million times better since al of the new ram etc was added but i might start looking at a new laptop/mac, what ones would you recommend??

a basic macbook will be more than enough for what u need mate, they start at £850 though so not cheap but they are all good and will last a while.

im surprised about your sony though, its what all our proper geeks at work use and they all love em. its hard to say what id recommend because im going on personal preference, id recommend anything that has an intel i5 processor, at least 4 gig of memory and stay away from an nvidia chipset because we have loads in our workshop due to a development issue with the motherboards.

also, if u go somewhere like john lewis you will get a 3/5 year gurantee rather than 1 year but u will pay a bit more but its worth it for decent aftercare

my vaio was more than £850!!

il have a look and see what i like and if work are going to cough up some towards it seeing as 90% of the stuff on it is coz of them
u might be getting a pm soon ;)

also il try the safe mode stuff and let you know what happens, thanks again for the advise

feel sorry for you mate. i got into the babit of backing up files every year and wiping the whole system clean and starting again. worst is when a virus/worm embeds its self in the start up code of the OS, no matter what virus checker you have it needs to go to a pro to remove it bit by bit normally taking hours and lots of cash.
i tend to keep laytop for gaming/net and download while pc is used only for work and a few times will connect just to install updates.
got sick and tired of losing £1000's worth of software (most brought) and having to deal with customer service explaining i need a new key code for the 5th time. sad to think people sit at home writing a damn virus to screw people over when they could put their skills to soo much better use, coding for Fold@Home etc. ..rant over..
hope you manage to get your laptop top sorted and is only a software bug not the hardware

when my mate scanned my laptop it came up with something like 17 worms and 8 trojans that were running constant in the back ground, not to mention the dataloggers   which is why he said he was suprised it even ran

ok so in safe mode it has let me run my eset av scan and basically that is telling me that Vista security IS the virus?????????????????

most of the time, its just people writing stuff because they can and it makes them feel good. id personally cut there balls off if i ever found them, like that guy who left his name and address in the sasser virus. you are right though orb, some of the more serious ones wont budge no matter what u do.

most of my mates wipe there system once a year to get rid of all the little bugs and the general clogging up that happens, keeping a backup is necessary now, spec with all the stuff u have on a pc these days

its something to do with that pc tools virus, it will be called microsoft security, windows pc scurity, windows vista security, it does this so u think its safe and will make you download it

i remember theres a virus that mimics the sercurity centre but uses a slightly different name and gets you to install or buy an upgrade, not sure if its that one but if it is its a pain to get rid of.
and vista, worse product product and rip off by MS, could of just waited 3 years a released 7 the ****ards. running 7 i dont have as much problems with worm/virus then vista

theres nothing wrong with vista at all, it was just mis-sold. vista works amazing if you have an absolute top spec machine then vista runs perfect its just a resource hogger so needs a lot of resources to run properly

mate dont all of the new stuff at work runs 7 but all of the old stuff doesnt so until work sort it out i have to select which im running depending on what im doing!!

im gona take it to work 2moz and smash it on my bosses desk!let him sort it!!

one of mine still uses XP hehe. beast, but that has more viruses then a $2 hooker. lol

my home comp that im on now uses xp!!!iv never had a prob with it :D

I install XP on everything of mine, cant beat it!

Personally I really dont like macs. I've been building/setting up computers for years, Avast Anti Virus is free and I've never had a problem of any kind. Part of it is about knowing where you should and shouldnt be going on the web and what you should/shouldnt be installing/running!

still no joy with the laptop so its going away 2moz to b looked at

your joking, obviously a bit more serious than a virus then mate, has it gone to sony then? they are normally pretty good if it is

yea bloke came out today and just laughed at it for ages
he said that pretty much everything is cooked

it takes about 35mins just to turn on and thats after iv moved EVERYTHING to an external hardrive
think he said it 4gb of free space and 6g of ram with a diff speed card??
but i have no idea i just got lost in numbers :?
then after about an hour and a half of being on both his and my laptop he just said it needs to go to sony or the bin
great customer care!!so just wait and see what sony say?
