Certainly a nipy little beast

I'm just back from a mornings drive out, round one of my favourite loops, but decided to cut it a bit short and head home instead, which ended up with me following a Dini 100 for the last 10 miles into town.

I was quite prepared for a long haul back to town, but with a sniff of open road it was off uphill passing a slow Sunday driver, leaving me to drop a couple of cogs to give chase. I don't normaly use all the revs, as I mainly use the peak torque and try to be fairly smooth. However I needed to get all the power from the 133 to get back on equal terms now the stage was set for a brisk finish to the morning

Being cold and wet with a fair amount of standing water about, the 100 looked fairly well planted through the corners which I suspect were taken with some caution as he slowed down a bit more than I expected. For me, the winter tyres were cutting through the standing water exceptionaly well, RS suspension making for an easy catch whilst pushing on through the bends with the traction control never blinking but, the ABS kept pattering away under my foot when braking firmly from speed reminding me that traction wasn't brilliant.

Without a fair amount of room or courtesy to allow an overtake, I think the 100Tce and RS133 are reasonably well matched for everyday road use and a 133 getting past a well driven 100 would be hard work. This may be a different story with the 133 ahead entering a twisty section or on a dry track where the RS chassis would probably outclass the GT based Twingo's.

I have a suspision it has been chipped and I'll be finding out in the next few days but if that was standard, it's not a bad wee motor. I had actualy seen this one for sale and thought about getting it for my Mrs. Wish i had now

Good speaking to you Garry(I hope I remembered correctly). You have the card so join up and keep in touch

I just found the card you gave me whilst cleaning out my car! Reminded me to look on this site, so I have signed up. I do slow down for the corners a bit round here, too many deer strikes in the past, mud from tractors on the road, diesel from whisky lorries and other general detritus. I didn't think my car was chipped, but it seems pretty nippy in standard form. Certainly a lot quicker point to point than the hyundai coupe 2.0 I replaced when I bought it. Someone else mentioned 50mpg, not in my experience, more like late 30's most of the time and into the 40's if I take it steady or go for a longer run. But then it is less than 2 miles to work each day so that knocks it back a bit. I hadn't had the car that long when you followed me, I have started to get a lot more confident in the corners. When I first got it I felt that the short wheelbase made it feel a bit back endy through the bends but have since learnt to keep my foot in and the back end will just follow round.

I have had a fair few cars in my time and the twingo is definitely one of the better ones. Not super fast but feels 25% faster than it is because of the turbo effect, it is really quick from a standing start if you get the revs right it pulls away nicely with foot flat to the floor, because it takes a few revs before the turbo takes effect it doesn't seem to suffer from wheelspin as much as some front wheel drive cars I've had. I haven't had a go in the 133, looks wise I don't really mind either way. I think they both have pros and cons.

I really need to upgrade the stereo though, I want to keep the head unit and the sound quality is okay but I only have front speakers and the volume is just not enough. I have heard of the pioneer upgrade speakers with the tweeters. Would I be okay putting the existing speakers in the back, is it a difficult job to do I am handy enough but reluctant to take things apart without knowing what I'm doing because I don't want to break anything.

Anyhoo glad I found your post on here, that was a memorable journey, particularly narrowly avoiding the suicidal dog walker who walked across the road without looking in a 60 mph zone!

I'd given you up as a lost cause.

I actualy saw a white dini 100 last night in Lhanbryde and thought of you. Guess it worked :) Welcome.

I asked and yours wasn't chipped. Just plenty of mid range torque from the turbo.

welcome to the forum mate!! glad u decided to sign up!!

get some pics up of your car ;)

i'm just setting off for work, otherwise i'd find a couple of posts about the speakers. Theres info here somewhere, unless some kind soul gets some links for you first

Haven't got any pics at the moment. I have just fitted a heatshot windscreen washer heater though in preparation for the winter. It switches on when the engine is on and heats a small amount of fluid hot enough to save scraping the windscreen. Should be good but I'll let you know come winter or if the temp gets any colder then sooner! Cost only 110 at the moment from eBay.

the gt is a nippy car in a straight line my twin brother has a mk6 zetec s (a yellow one) and hes got nothing on me in the straights but around corners he pulls away a bit. but my car is standard accept BOV if i had my car lowered i think i could have him.

it was funny when he got his car he was thinking i would be left in the dust cos its a zetec s 1.6 but i knew playing around with a few zetecs before he got his car it wouldnt leave me in the dust.

I think I'll go for the pioneers, I'll have a look to see if I have the tweeter wiring. Would it be worth using the existing door speakers in the back (if the wiring is there) if I have no tweeter wiring I'll probably just get upgraded coaxials.

Worth doing the tweeters for sure, place
The standards in the back and it'll be a big improvement. I really really want a dini 100 in black

I saw one in black park behind me in the coop in Aberlour on Monday. Looked great but my last car was black and it was the devils work to clean. White hides everything! Even when filthy it looks okay ish. Except the flies in summer. I'll be keeping all fingers and toes crossed when I look for speaker wires at the weekend. Don't really want to have to wire tweeters and certainly won't be wiring the rears.

Mines a white cup... white is no easier bar other than it hides obvious defects quite well. Caz's is a black cup, and I'm quite looking forward to correcting it and getting a ceramic coat down to protect it!

Blacks an arse to clean and shows swirls so easy :( however can't wait for you to do some magic on her :)
Maggi's is by far the best condition white cup iv ever seen.

Having this topic revival.. after TRAX, in the evening when we did a drive with the C2's, chickens, Jared's and Ghostz RS 's, we had a drink in hotel Campanile with me, Ghostz and James.

The Wind actually gives the whole GT vs RS a new twist.

James said that I actually have best of both worlds. I have the economy, insurance and tax cost of the GT but the handeling and performance of an RS.
I had no real problem keeping up with them. Especially on the roundabouts I held my speed, held the clutch down, revved it and when I came out the roundabout I floored it and the torque from the little engine rockets you forwards. I had a ton of fun with that drive!
Makes me wanna go back.. I'm jealous of your countryside roads. Something we don't have in Belgium, unfortunatly.

MS was a pain in the arse to be fair. Cheap and economical and then sticks with us through the bends

So not a bad engine and to think his is heavy with all the roof mechanism a simple tce engine in a twingo :?
