VRs isn't a bad ride, proper sleeper. BUT for all it's power and extra speed apparently, (they'll run 0-60 6.8 all day long according to a lot of people I know with them) i couldn't get it to go any faster than my 133 down the dual carriageway to the dealers (and believe me, I tried several times during my test drive )

It also didn't feel quick despite it being rather! But it is better built, and very, very practical. Just looks, noise and feel didn't excite me!

If I needed a bigger car, I'd probably have a good look at an RS megane. Although, if I was going to do lots of miles and needed a 5 door it would either be the RS dci 175 of the last shape or a GT dci 160 from the new shape.

If you want LOTS of space, my parents have had Saabs for years. They've been great cars and have masses of space. Not entirely fun (although I wouldn't say that to the hot aero versions) and they're probably going quite cheaply these days.

Rather than just the fabia vrs, how about an octavia vrs? Petrol or diesel versions and they have lots of room.

My brother has an Astra SRI XP. (The XP does make it look a lot nicer) There's plenty of room in them, and they're fairly nippy. He's got the 1.8VVT which is pretty decent.

Mazda 3 {MPS optional?} , MG6, Audi A3, Focus.......

For just the requirement of "bigger than a twingo, with five doors" you've got quite a lot of choice on your hands.

Not a proxal for gods sake

A derv Octavia vrs is a win. I have been looking a little for something fast and huge, and keep coming to a Saab 95 estate to replace the family bus (2l Megane estate)

Well, some people are going to like it. Never sat in one myself, but from basic idea it fit the requirements

We recently had a baby and actuallu went and bought a twingo with its sliding seats etc it makes fitting everything in a doddle. Why get bigger if you dont need to and 5 doora is just being lazy lol

I agree. We fit everything in the Twingo for the wee man (8 months old). Sliding seats make it so easy.

Very true. I have a 3yr old and a 4 month old. Both can fit in fine inc the buggerboo whatever pram with no buggering about (same cant be said for the mother-in-laws new fiesta). If we were in a position where the twingo was our only car, it would do the job. Getting the kids in and out can be a pain (esp with a rear facing car seat).

At least I would be able put with it, the Mrs is another matter, but thats why she has a QashQui +2

Skoda Fabia VRS.......

I'd hang about on a new one. They're great cars but has anyone else seen the problems reported with that engine? 2 people i know now have had replacement engines and the bosses mrs is using oil at a rate of over 1l per 1000miles

That was quite normal usage if it was a 4 pot, pre GM, Alfa... stated in the manual to not by worried by it using up to 1L every 1000 kilometers! blamed it on being a high performance engine and Alfas racing heritage, didnt make much sense.

I agree that it would be a ba$tard if you had to use a rear facing child seat. Fortunately Jack was big enough to buy a proper forward facing Recaro badboy and it fits and looks superb.

I actually chose thevtwingo over the swift as it was more practical qt the moment we are usibg a rear facing child seat and its a bit of a pain but no big deal plus could always disable airbags and make missus sit in the back.

We are quite lucky that our chold seat slots into the buggy so webuse that and thers still a bit of room in the bqck plus theres always behind seats and on them.

People nowadays seem to think when they have a child they have to buy a massive car when theres no nees. bit like tgat renault advert going from a clio 200 to some pepple carrier as if lol

i was lugged qbout in a peugeot 104 ffs lol

I thought the swift had a bigger boot and quite a spacious rear but I didn't look at it from a parents POV so didn't consider child seats and prams etc

I agree, lots of people think having a kid (or kids) means they have to drive the biggest car possible. Which to an extent I understand, but some just don't need the busses they drive

I do know of a few that have bought Senics etc with one kid. We have just bought a 7 seater as we need 5 full seats + lots of luggage (two car seats side by side always eat up the middle seat), It is awesome at the job it was bought for.
