Making me want some fishes now haha might have to take a trip to the garden centre

Why not join in on the fun mate! Lol. Im lucky enough to have bought a house with a pond complete with everything I need to get going. I wouldn't have a clue on how to build one. I can imagine it would be quit costly too. Iv had tropical fish before but never anything on this scale. I can't wait to get some nice colourful fish in it.

Won't be able to get a pond or anything but I might get a tank and get some to keep in my room on camp :) what do I need to look after tropical type ones ?

Filter, thermostat/heater and aeration is a must. There are all sorts and many variations of these but you can normally buy a starter tank that comes with everything you will need (apart from water and fish of course) lol.

You forgot to mention that feeding them would also be involved

Oh yes and that too!! Lol

This is my dads pond in our garden, we don't have a net over it and only once has a fish jumped out, that was the second day we had her.

That's looks really good mate! What size is that pond?? I mesured mine today and it was 10ftX6ft. How many fish to you have in it??

I think it's 10x20, we have around 20 fish in there ranging from 8-9 inches all the way up to 3ft. They are really easy fish to look after, just don't feed them in the winter and only when water is above 10c.

Also you can get them really tame we feed ours bread in the summer and they will come up to the surface and eat it out your hands :)

I attempted to drain some of the pond today but it didn't work to well! Lol I turned off all the pumps, stopped the flow with a drain plug in the 1st chamber and next to my pond is a sump with 3 taps inside. I turned the 1st tap to flush the water out of that chamber and everything seemed ok as the chamber completely drained so I could clean it, then I realised the water that had now drained into the sump wasn't going anywhere!!! It just filled up. I looked for any type of drains or pipes in the bottom of the sump but nothing it just seems to be a hole in the ground with nowhere for the water to go! So now as it stands I have a pond that's lost about half a foot in depth and a full (nearly over flowing) sump. Can anyone shed any light???

You could try syphoning it out with some hose but might take a long time and would need somewhere for the water to go i.e. a drain

There's a small blue pipe (about an inch in diameter) that enters the sump which I think is just a drain of the garden lawn. But 2moz I'm gona try and connect a pump to that so the water in the sump will in theory leave down this blue pipe. Where this blue pipe goes I have no idea! Lol although there is another garden sump and a pump at the other end of the garden on the other side of the lawn so I'm hoping the water will end up there. In that sump there is a pump that's connected to a outside drain. This is the sump near the pond but I didn't get the blue pipe in it!!

I'm gona go home on my break and try attaching the pump on that pipe and see what happens. My intentions was to drain the whole pond so I can give it a popper clean its got really bad blanket weed all up the sides which makes the pond look a mess. I though if I removed the majority of it then treat the water it would solve the problem.

Blanket weed will only extend a few inches down the side of the pond. Just use a scrubbing brush with the water in there. I doubt you will get rid of blanket weed, once it has been introduced.
