Ahha! This is what I've been thinking of....

1. Where are the Standard seatbelt sockets (or whatever you want to call them) attached to? I had a feeling they'd be tied into the standard seat.

and

2. Does your Airbag light stay on? Twingo seats having side airbags and all...

STRONGLY thinking about getting a TRS Orange Harness set made up (like the Driftworks Orange) to tie in with the Interior theme and the only thing that's really stopping me is the problem of the standard seatbelts...

Cheers

Matt,

The standard seatbelt plug things are attached to the new subframe. I had to drill a hole into them (pretty simple) and then just bolt the seatbelt plug onto them. Your right about them being initially attached to the standard seat, but it is a fairly simple fix.

The airbag light was slightly more complex. I had to buy a Recaro Airbag resistor kit off ebay which would complete the airbag circuit and ensure that the airbag light didn't come on. This part took some messing.

Al has a helpful guide on the RS Forums on his progress thread

I had TRS originally in the Orange flavor. The thing that put me off and made me change to Sabelts was the quality of the TRS's really wasn't good - plasticy buckles and very average stitching.

As mentioned I have a guide-ish on RS forum on seat fitting and airbag looms.

I had TRS before in my first car and the stitching wasn't too bad. Granted the buckle was cr*p but the plan is to go to a Magnum 3" Harness, need to find out how long the shoulder straps are to see if I can wrap them around the rear Strut brace. I'd get an orange towing strap to go with it too.

If not, I'll probably be running Sabelts, my dad's got a set of 6 Points for sale.

Ta Very much =)

No worries :)

What rear strut are you planning to wrap the belts around?

Rear strutbrace is unadvisable really... What if you have a rear end collision, the belts would just slack and be no use

That was going to be my next point if it was one of the 172 ones people seem to have. In a crash at the front it'd pull straight off with the force an impact would make.

going for the rear brace, reinforce the brace in side and tack weld it to the turrets, only thing stronger then that is welded cage. i need to weld the other aparts of my harness attachment points to the floor plan and change them to eye bolt clips, not liking having it scrwed/bolt in as its not as strong as a good old fashion weld job

Tack welding would still rip straight off in my opinion - those struts are just too weak - also, and I may be wrong, aren't they compressed flat steel rather than cylindrical?. Safest bet with minimal work is eyebolts welded (there's very little places, if any at the correct angle in the back of the 133 to bolt in - all to do with the fuel tanks double skin/body arrangement thing under where you'd want to bolt an eyelet) to the floorplan.

Or something like I have is secure but involves metal work and customisation. Or a proper strut welded to the turret sides with a bit of MIG/TIG. Or a cage cross bar.

It may well be strong enough if welded however in the event of a major crash the harnesses would just stretch/slack as they would be way too long going that far back.

Having said that though there aren't really many options so I can see why you're doing it. Although the angle may be too steep, why not use the original rear seat belt points/that area?

Just for the record, I'm not having a dig just I've been looking for the best options myself too...

surprisingly the angle is a good one, believe mine angles at about 60 degree, nicely clear of the 45 min angle.
been seeing into a pillar bar to go across the B-piller so the harness will sit at a Right angle, bolt into the top front selt belt mounts and V brace to bolt into the lower back passenger seat bolting.
mine strong enough to support 2 belts and has been use don track by me and others that attented last rensport track day with no complaints.
i wouldnt use a harness on roads as its to hard to look over my blind spot i find with them on and using harnesses without roll cage is the most dangerous thing to do, roll it (more rolling happens on normal roads then tracks) and you'll be crushed as you have no give to more out the way compared to standard belts.
and as for being shunted in the back, if its on a track and the guy/girl hasnt got insurence, buckling braces will be the leats of the problems as they'll be a corpse on the track =D
id say use bar and harness combo for track as you'll be fine and declear it on your track insurence (i find people going on track without it madness) and keep your standard belt for normal driving

How are you getting a 60' angle? Using the rear strut or rear seatbelt points (assume strut brace)?

The harness bar sounds like a great idea and I'd be interested in one if you had them made up.
