Hey guys just a warning, Sony have admited the system has been hacked and over 100,000 users account details, such as e-mail, card details, address etc have been taken, so just keep an eye out!

I heard that on the Radio, you would think they have made it extremely secure :|

But supposingly they are going to rebuild the whole network from scratch because it is unsalvagable, because it is completey destroyed :/

Thought they did. Hackers have spent years trying it I thought? To the extent when someone last year hacked the software and installed linux there was a large amount of media coverage because of the lengths sony had gone to. I don't think anyone can accuse them of being irresponsible like I've already heard splashed around by the news monkeys.

And it don't affect me cos I bought the right console ;)

Sony has warned users of its PlayStation Network that their personal information, including credit card details, may have been stolen.

The company said that the data might have fallen into the hands of an "unauthorised person" following a hacking attack on its online service.

Access to the network was suspended last Wednesday, but Sony has only now revealed details of what happened.

Users are being warned to look out for attempted telephone and e-mail scams.

In a statement posted on the official PlayStation blog, Nick Caplin, the company's head of communications for Europe, said: "We have discovered that between April 17 and April 19 2011, certain PlayStation Network and Qriocity service user account information was compromised in connection with an illegal and unauthorized intrusion into our network".

The blog posting lists the personal information that Sony believes has been taken.

- Name
- Address (city, state/province, zip or postal code)
- Country
- E-mail address
- Date of birth
- PlayStation Network/Qriocity passwords and login
- Handle/PSN online ID

Mr Caplin added: "It is also possible that your profile data, including purchase history and billing address (city, state, zip), and your PlayStation Network/Qriocity password security answers may have been obtained.

"For your security, we encourage you to be especially aware of email, telephone, and postal mail scams that ask for personal or sensitive information."

Playstation are f**ked basically!! There own fault for not encrpting things properly!!

Lol I'm glad I just use my xbox, Some of my friends take the mic out of the xbox saying u have to pay £39 for xbox live but I can say now at least it's usuable, especially seeing as it will take a good few months to rebuild the PSN network.

Useable maybe, unhackable I think not! It could just as easily have happened to xbox live... And I would never rule that out if I were you, the good thing is if you buy live subscriptions from a shop there's never a need to give Microsoft your payment details. But this is also the case with the PSN!

It's an unfortunate situation to be in but the is literally nothing I or anyone else can do but wait!

I've never added money details to my account, not that it makes it much better. Fail.

It will take alot to hack microsoft tbh.
You haven't used windoze then?!?

People think it's more secure because we pay for it.... That only makes us more complacent (sp?) it'll happen the hackers are prob making a point with Sony due to the recent court action with the homebrew 'hacker'

They won't have to rebuild the network. They're just asking users to be extra vigilant and changing all usernames and passwords when/where possible. Not that it won't stop the hackers now they've already extracted the data, but if they have access to the thousands of security questions (set by the user) anyway, surely the hackers can just go and change the password again?

Fortunately luck would have it that the bank details stored on my PSN account are a few years old, and I've had a new card since then... *Phew*. Still, my PS3 PSU has kaput so I can't use my PS3 even if I wanted to!!

The fact is any system by any make can be hacked. Same as stealing something. All security does is delay the process, not stop it.

The only main difference is Xbox being run by microsoft, having been in the computing industry for so long know a bit more about the security stuff and how to spot hackers quickly

is that slang or proper english? looks suspiciously like the german word "kaputt", which means broken.

BTT: They now do have my credit card details. too bad It's maxxed out anyway :)

I'd like to have PSN up and running again next week. Have to get the new black-ops map pack to play "call of the dead" :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_Cx82OFXM0

We do use that word in english so yes it's based on German Frediii, though the spelling round here ain't too hot so that's the best you'll get  :p

im sure my xbox has never been hacked...... ^^

It would need to be your live account as opposed to your actual box (xbox consoles themselves are very easy to hack).
Am sure it's quite easily just as possible to target xbox live as the sony hack, they just weren't targeted on this occasion and sony were. The result of this however, is that other online providers will be looking at their security set-up's and probably beefing up their security further now too. They just won't tell you that your data has been at the same risk all this time, and make the updates without really telling anyone. That sort of thing happens very frequently.
