So the heat reflectors for the ball joints are very reasonably priced from Renault. £13.50 a set (yes I was also suprised)

Renault have no stock though :(

I will keep trying, I hope it's a part that might come back into stock but I suspect not
 
heat reflectors ordered, also one new wishbone, all that is around 150euros, and it will arrive in two weeks, so after installation i will brake apart old wishbone and than i can measure complete balljoint!!!!

Where did you get the heat reflectors from? I'm sure Maggi asked and renault were out of stock?
 
probably, anyway, i will make drawing of that, as i seen its 1mm or maybe 2mm thk aluminium plate cutted, bended and drilled and it will be easy to make
 
I think its funny that Renault say there's no issue with the ball joints. Yet, there's an additional part developed to protect it from heat radiating off the brake disc and probably hot particles of brake dust.

So, does the rubber benefit from being protected or not? :lol:
 
I pointed this out, yet was still told I was wrong and that no cars have come through Renault UK for the same fault recently.

I feel if people have been told there is a replacement part that has been updated at some point, and that Renault see fit to produce these parts, it is an admission of the original being at fault. Well see, they haven't come back to me yet
 
If I had a spare £340 odd I'd just buy a pair of lower arms and replace them myself. But it's more money than I can spare at the moment and the fact that Renault refuse to realise the rubbers are awful and a problem is ridiculous! I can't imagine how many people would have to complain and persist for them to actually notice
 
Hi all this is my first post but been a member for a while. TWINGO RS 133 2010
Ok so heres my story on these sordid ball joint boots, it started about a month ago when turning a sharp left hand corner I got a clunking noise coming from bottom left front wheel area so then I new a problem was afoot. On Saturday whilst joining motorway on slip road I got a whining noise coming from the left hand side,lasted about 20 seconds then stopped. The clunking got worse, now not just on bends but also when setting off in 1st gear so had a look on this forum last night and discovered the problem with the ball joint rubbers so decided that must be problem and id have a look in morning.
Well this morning I did look and what a mess the rubber is in, perished on the left hand front,split all the way round and on the right hand side when full lock is applied a nice split on that one too but not as perished as left side,so both are goosed. Im 6 months out of warranty and the car has done only 17100 miles.. WHAT A JOKE!!!!

So after discovering this I was furious and at 9am this morning I was on to Renault uk who to be fair were quite sympathetic with my disappointment at having a Renault sport at my disposal and unable to enjoy driving it because of the problem. He also admitted that at 17000 mls this should not have happened and as a loyal customer owning 3 previous Renaults that I should be treated accordingly. So long story short its been booked in to Renault tmoz for diagnostic tests {£50 charge} then the car will be fixed and they are prepared to make a substantial contribution towards the repairs , but not prepared to tell me how much at this stage..

So the question I am asking is do the full arm and joint have to be replaced or can the joint and boot be replaced? Also how much is the cost of the repair?
Ive seen on here about £500 for both arms and joints to be replaced as they don't come separate.
If this is the case then im appalled as this product to fail at this age/mileage is an utter disgrace.
 
it will be an 80% or so contribution from renault uk, so wouldn't worry about it. i would suggest that if it happens in future, you take it to be done outside of a dealership and it will be nowhere near 500. now that renault uk have come on board, inform the garage and the cost of diagnosing will be added into the bill for the entire job.

Join the club of unhappy customers sir. I was quoted £453, and RUK offered a 50% contribution. Funnily enough, yes my boot was split, but my balljoint was fine, so I went to a friend's garage and they replaced the gaiter for £36. Unfortunately the entire arm has to be replaced, but couple of the lads on the forum are trying to find a solution for us owners.

At least you found the helpful person at Renault. Poor Caz and James (Maggi) have been speaking to one of the cleaners or someone from technical has got amnesia :(

I'm going to move this over to the ball joint thread, so its another record of how unfit for purpose the rubber boot is.

Well it does seem so, the problem is their garage has qualified technicians and I'm not, so I agree they should believe their opinion over mine! But only when that is the right opinion :lol:

I've still heard nothing from Renault UK so I will be chasing Wednesday.

Ive met a few Sundays and Fridays, but never anyone called Wednesday. Maybe that's where your going wrong :lol:

The person at RUK I was dealing with is on annual leave and an email was sent to let me know someone else had picked it up and was in discussions with the dealership last week, who have offered to inspect the vehicle again (which I will refuse, I have little faith left).

Apparently it takes 1 week after an inspection to work out costs to replace a few steering components and a further 2 weeks to discuss what went wrong
