Danny @ 519 is the man for the job, plus he will do it properly and advice you to change the waterpump too as they leak like a b*****d on these engines once the cambelt has been changed.

i recon on an aircon twingo GT so both belt kits and a waterpump your probably talking £250? give or take?

much better than the RS Clios & meganes and i suppose probably the twingo up at the £450-£600 mark!

nothing wrong with the pumps, they need a new gasket after the seals have been broken. but that's just common practice, i'll DEFFINATELY be avoiding this 519 place. water 'pump'ing you all out of cash. borderline kwik fit level cowboy by the sounds of things

Yes, you could probably get away without replacing it, but overheating the engine shortly after a belt change would be a false economy.

Danny from 519 seems to have a very good reputation with the 1*2 lads

Well I went into my local garage and didn't understand me asking for a full service but with renault official spark plugs and I specified millers nano 5w40 and he had no clue what that was.

Also said the rear geometry couldn't be adjusted? I thought you could get rear camber bolts or shims.

You can get shims for the rear from venom motorsport and that mechanic sounds like a class a flid

Been advised to change the water pump on mine too. There's a specialist round the corner from me who used to service my 200, looking at about £450 for the cam belt Inc parts and labour plus another £200 for a service

Bones, double check that with the owners club as i never had to change waterpumps on 172/182/197's as they wern't a weak point and id assume the F4RT uses the same pump. just to see if it can save you a bit.

Waitey, as standard the rear geometry cannot be adjusted yes but as you said camber shims will let you play with that.

really? didn't know that, all the water pumps and belts i done in renault seemed to be working just fine. sometimes i swear i must end up working on the few renaults that seem to work as sweet as sugar! lol

old d4f water pumps leak from a few months old. The newer d4f/d4ft pump is different, but they still leak. The difference is instead of leaking out behind the pulley, they leak through the center of it. I wouldn't ever do a cambelt on one without a pump.

K4J/M pumps are responsible for snapping more cambelts than anything else I've ever known, They seize solid and take out everything. To not change the pump on one of these would be pure ignorant stupidity.

F7P/R and F4R 73* pumps are good, better left alone, usually issues come from cheap replacement parts. 1 in 100 needs changing. I've done less than 10 through necessity

F4R 830/F4RT pumps are ok, but they still run off the cambelt, so I treat them no differently to an idler pulley. they are afterall just a rotating bearing assembly. Remember at the point you change the cambelt, whever is left there is expected to work for a further 72k before it's taken apart again.

Okay so I just wanted to wrap this thread up.

Took the GT up to 519automotive for the Cambelt to be changed. Once got there met dan who is genuinely on of the nicest guys you will ever meet. He didnt waste any time and cracked straight on. It was a little tight but it was do able. After a couple hours it was done and ready to put back together.

So basically, just wanted to say that without a doubt it was worth it! Feels better and knowing that the water pump and belt were changed was a peace at mind.

Dan is a great guy, very experienced, reliable and trustworthy and to make it all even better... Cheaper than renault.

So anyone needing one done... Dans the guy to go to

Can I ask for a clarification on pricing for a cam belt change from a Renault garage or local garage? mine needs doing but I'm a student and slightly worried about the cost....

My 58 reg was 5 years old last month, but it's only done 25000 miles, will the cambelt still need changing soon?

Mileage or age which ever comes first

You could get away with it. However rubber perishes with age, so theres a chance you may not :?

Hence mileage or age for recomended intervals

Just wondered if anyone had found out yet, was going to phone him and ask but haven't had a chance yet.

As for ktecs price guide it looks as though it needs doing after 6 years instead of 5 for some reason. Also I know they show a renault price compared to there own but don't know if it's accurate.

I went to the Renault garage in Bolton yesterday to get a price on cambelt and waterpump change, £699.00 for the full job :shock:
I gave them my reg and they gave me a maintenance programme printout for my vehicle, it says 6 years for cambelt, i heard 5 year on here :?
My car is refered to as a Twingo II on the printout, i thought the Twingo II was the facelift model? mines a 58 reg
