I went to the Renault garage in Bolton yesterday to get a price on cambelt and waterpump change, £699.00 for the full job
I gave them my reg and they gave me a maintenance programme printout for my vehicle, it says 6 years for cambelt, i heard 5 year on here :?
My car is refered to as a Twingo II on the printout, i thought the Twingo II was the facelift model? mines a 58 reg

£699 sounds right and they changed the service plans on the old one it was 5 years which personally is rather follow.

And it is a twingo ll as the twingo l is the original, facelifted one is still a twingo ll until it changes shape fully

Yes it's a twingo 2 the twingo 1 was the LHD crazy mobile, people here say 5 years as they are prone to early wear, I myself go by miles usually, unless there's any visual or hearable signs

True if you do a lot of miles per year go by miles of you don't do many go by years, whether you choose to change it at 5 or 6 years is personal preference, the renault by me are happy to use either the old service plan or the newer one.

ALWAYS go by years first, and in the second instance if you reach 60,000 miles way below the specified period then change it. the poly synthetic compound that the belts are made of are made to last 6-7 years just like your car tyres before the rubber perishes and turns very brittle. 699 in my oppinion is an utter con of a price, there is nothing complicated whatsoever on the timing side of the k4m engine. 2 locking pins and a cam plate, jobs a good one. i know you're not in scotland LC, but for your reference i done a 133 non cup a few weeks ago and the boss charged £370 + vat. for warranty work your dealerships are perfect, but when its out of your pocket i'd find a trusted mechanic every time!!!!!

Is that price including the timing belt kit, aux belt kit, water pump and cam endcap covers?

Presuming that couldnt include dephaser pulley as the price covers the parts and not much left

aye man the full whack, rollers and whatnot all got changed. he gets the parts through dingbro but dephaser came from renault trade, the full kit cost about 250 trade and labours 40 an hour. took about 3 hours to do although the card time is like 4 hours i'm sure. the water pumps bearing was on it's last legs. waterpumps were a really bad problem on the older scenic k4m engines but they've gotten better with later lagunas and the variant on the twingo sports.

come to think about it, i'll actually get you some more auto data fancies neil. perhaps the long list of various jobs and the official times it takes to do each and every job on a twingo? requests thread for auto-data? :D

Lol that won't be at a renault garage. Clearly not at those prices.
Probably with a mates garage and there's no markup on those prices

I didn't think it was either, just wondered with him saying Renault price, need to find a friend that works at a garage! ;)

i've done my apprenticeship with renault, now working at a local independant garage. i have all the timing tools and what not for the entire range! i suppose it's just a case of the more you do ; the quicker you can do it whilst still doing it in a safe manner. the TCE engine is a breeze when it comes to doing the timing belt, the parts are cheap too. takes just under two hours if you drop the subframe so it's only right to be truthful in your labour and parts charge.

at a dealership you're paying 70-90 quid an hour depending on if it's independant renault or arnold clark renault, and then full customer price on the parts so on so forth and they do the job itself by ''book time'' which is usually the longest way of doing it in terms of time. :)

£90 an hour? That's just a piss take!
Is it the same price to do the GT as it is the RS? So like 700-800?
And how much from an independent garage like yours? :)

7-800? Last I checked it was £600 from my renault dealer for my old GT.

Basically £700 for the RS, don't know where I got 800 from
So the GT is cheaper? :)

No idea now as I don't own one, that was the quote I got told over a year ago now

yeah it's quite ridiculous when you see what a dealership tries to get away with nowadays isn't it? GT timing belt + waterpump etc is 599, RS is 699 if memory serves me correctly. at the end of the day, its up to a customer on what they want to pay as long as they know the work carried out is done correctly

I've had another quote at a Renault dealer for cambelt change and new water pump, £500 for cambelt change and £100 for water pump, which is better than the £699 i was originally quoted at a different garage.
