So different Renault garages quoted you different prices?
Think I'll ring up the garage near me first, see what they quote, usually take my car to them anyway if there's something wrong :)

Yes two different Renault garages gave me two different prices, they must just charge what they want, its silly.

GT timing belt changes are cheap as chips because its a very simple setup, cheap parts and no specialist Renault locking tools required like the K4M fitted to the RS, have the RS belt changed by a garage without the proper tools and you could end up down 20bhp and 10mpg!!

sure I paid £380 for my last GT belt change a couple of years back, that was cam belt kit, aux belt kit, water pump and type D coolant all genuine Renault parts but done by a specialist

I understood the 172/182 pumps are pretty good, I've had both, but as said earlier, if youre changing the belts you may as well change the water pump for a new one, you'd have to do the whole job again just to change the pump out if it eventually fails.

£450 ish for cambelt on the 1*2 and water pump.
Mine is being done soon.

Ive heard good stuff of Danny @ 519.

To be fair, I've used GDi and Angelworks before, but I'm now using Mick @ Diamond Motors, Nottm.
He is a great bloke, ex Renault, knows EVERYTHING - like an encycopaedia of Renaults.

Did my service, brembo discs and pads, aux belt and repaired a couple of electrical problems last year.

Any ideas on where to get it done near leeds apart from Renault? Would RS tuning do it? Had a look at 519 automotive but it's a bit far away :/

I know, that's why I asked if anyone knew if they did it ;)

If you looked into RS tuning you would already know they offer workshop services and regularly change the belts on megane RS' ;)

that said and done, the megane belt is no more difficult than a nissan micra's timing belt so i'd deffinately hope that they'd be able to do a timing belt otherwise i'd be pretty scared. no doubt RS tuning will be quite expensive for doing a belt. seems like a lot of people on this forum have deep deep pockets, where can i get in on this deep cash pot? :D

I didn't know if they'd do it for twingos or if they had a price or anything, that's why I asked here first :)
And tell me about it Oscar! I wish I had these deep pockets too! :D

RS tuning will do it on any car. they are a garage first and foremost, and they will take work on any car be it a datsun, a model t ford or a 2011 twingo silverstone / GT so on so forth. there isn't really any skill in doing a timing belt, even more so when locking tools are required to make the job even easier :) i'd be bloody more than confident to confirm that rs tuning will take on any car sullii if you are happy paying the premium price that they'd no doubt charge, being renault sport specialists and all.

haven't you considered going to a local garage? and getting it a lot cheaper for the same work carried out ;) that would be my advice! like i've said about a thousand times, there is nothing complicated about a timing belt haha especially on a renault!

The specialist garages don't charge a premium :s stop spouting rubbish. I've had a quote recently and the garage I will be going to (which is a specialist) is charging no more than I've been quoted my the local garages. I'd rather it went to the place I'm going as if there is no difference in price but yet one of them works more predominantly on one make of car, I know which one I'd go to any day of the week

430 for timing belt + water pump at rentech stirling / edinburgh on a twingo gt. renault specialist! deffinately talking rubbish aren't i mark?

Got mine done today at Renault garage, cambelt, aux belt, waterpump, coolant, £599. Expensive but its a load off my mind, can drive it 'properly' now without worrying about things snapping!

How much would it be at an independent garage you think?
I know all are different, but just a rough price before I ring round :)

I don't know to be honest, it would be cheaper than what i paid, but there wouldn't be as much guarantee if something went wrong.

taylor there would be every gurantee on the work carried out. garages have insurances to cover mess up's like a timing belt that snaps 2 miles down the road, so that's always good for peace of mind. perhaps soon i'll stick up a thread on how to do the timing belt on a GT so you can see just how simple it is!??

sullii - it depends really on what garage you choose to have your work done at, 250-350 at an local independant garage or 500-600 at a renault dealership arnold clark or independant dealership. it's really a case of finding a garage you trust, better to pay a few quid extra at a place you know outputs good quality work than somewhere who's given you the cheapest quote.

That's not too bad! Yeah you're right you just need to find a place you trust
Think I will ask the garage near me first, done everything else that needed doing on my car so may aswell :)

How many times has this thread gone round in circles :?

How much will it cost? Well, garages in different areas will have different overheads and costs. Some will get decent trade rates on parts and equipment, whilst others wont and some will fit the cheapest crap. Some places will specialise in a particular marque, having the relevant tools and knowledge and will have built up a reputation for quality workmanship which may let them charge a slight premium.

If your not prepared to go with a specialist (either main dealer or small independent specialist), get phoning round for prices, checking whats included and whats the brand of parts. Do they have the correct tools. What happens if your not happy?
