So long as the rubber is just perished and starting to crack, but still sealing out any muck and moisture from the ball joint itself, it should be worth while. If the boot has split and the joint is worn from having grit and water in there, its already too late.

My cars been for inspection today and it needs 2 new wish bones. Renault say they will cover 60% of the repair. Not sure what to do . Do people think this is fair? The car is 16 months out of warranty. It will cost me about £200.

I was hoping for a bit better offer but i don't think its too bad. I ve priced the wishbones and it would cost me £286 for them both then I would have to fit them myself and would have no guarantee on them. Its better that paying over £500 for the repair!!!

You had them replaced before under warranty? If yes then I'd be asking for a bigger contribution.

Waitey - didn't know vibratechnics have done a suspension balljoint? There's nothing on their website I've seen about it

Ive just had a look at one of the MG Metro/ MG F threaded balljoints and the thread diameter is too small.

So thats one option scrapped :(

I emailed what car just to ask there opinion on the offer. Here's what they said.

Hi Andrew

Thanks for getting in touch with What Car? I'm sorry to hear about your Twingo problems.

A quick search on Google reveals a couple of forums with people discussing similar problems, but ball joint failures don't seem to be so widespread to be any more than minor anecdotal evidence of a common fault. Perhaps the fact that Renault has offered to pay 60% of the repair bill suggests it may not be a one-off complaint. However, Renault may be offering to pay this purely out of goodwill to keep your loyalty to the brand. That's certainly what it would argue, I suspect.

Considering that the car's now out of warranty, and that the warranty on the replacement parts has also expired, I think that Renault's offer is a good one and would advise you to accept it. The manufacturer isn't under any obligation to fund any of the repair so this seems more than fair.

You could try asking for more, though I doubt an appeal would be successful and although it's galling when any part on a car fails, especially when it costs you, at least you're not being asked to pay the full £550.

Best wishes

Emma

I'm assuming this is the thread I should be looking at Neil?
Oh yes :(

Cheers. Having a read through.

Mine went through an MOT with no advisories so it's happened within the time that I've owned it. 4 1/2 years and 49000 miles - not bad going compared to a few folk on here.

Only thing is, my trip to Silverstone and Wales is ruined now

i am on the list as well now, going into renault on monday for them to tell me its a one off and shouldnt happen

thats what they told me about the steering wheel, couldnt stop laughing when told me that
