Some fun from last Thursday around the Ring. No laptime or anything, but Brunnchen's entry is worth a view, a wheels sliding was quite fun :D

Not many news on the Twingo recently, but I've done some work on it.

- fixed washer bottle which was damaged for about a year (now I can wash my windscreen again!)
- modified the inner wheel arches plastics and put them back in
- removed the brakes cooling ducts as the pipes were on the car for about 2 years and started to be in bad shape, as well as the aluminium ducts themselves so all is out
- reduced the front camber to 0°30' and rear to stock as the car is only doing road now
- fog lights back on the car also to fill the holes in the bumper
- winter tires fitted as, well, winter is coming :D
- full service of the lady last Monday as it really deserved it.

I'll bring the car back to France with me as I'm starting a new job at Citroen's design studio next month, and it will spend most of the year being used as a weekend driver only.
The plan for the future evolutions is to bring it back to Germany next winter for the new upgrades. It will get a Clio 197 engine and gearbox, with crankshaft, pistons, rods, head, camshafts uprated along with throttle bodies or a custom carbon airbox based on the Clio R3 airbox. That's for the "power" side of things. Chassis wise, it will received a full welding, full cage too, new front Clio suspension setup to go with the new engine. All windows will be switched for Lexan lightweight (probably 3mm) windows. The wheel arches will be modified to fit the new setup with 17" wheels on all four corners and bigger tires than stock (basically Clio dimensions, so 8" wide). The brakes will remain the same as now in terms of calipers as I already have the Brembos which came off a Clio, but I will put PFC 2 piece rotors on to save some weight and get extra stopping power. The wheels will be ATS GTR in 17x8, 5 bolts. And we must work on a rear wing and front splitter to get some downforce in order to get the car stable at high speeds which is its current problem due to the short wheelbase. New suspensions will be installed too, very probably KW Clubsport coilovers.

The goal is to reach around 240hp and 950kg, which should make for an interesting little thing to drive.

Back to the track in 2015 with all the new setup!

Yotah, your car is even nicer in person,

got a few shot of it in the car park opposite the ring casino on sat.

very nice :)

i do want to see what 8 wide looks like on the Twingo RS and how much you have to modify the arches to fit 8 wide , cause i always wanted to try 7,5 wide or 8 for the rest keep us update yotah i bet its going to be a beast :D

That sounds beautiful!

I thought you were going with a megane 225 engine? Or have I missed read that somewhere?

Manofhow, too bad then as we missed each other at the race!! Don't hesitate to post the pictures :)

For a while I wanted to put a Megane 3 Trophy engine, but even though I like the power and torque of it, it just doesn't sound as good as a high revving atmo engine, and I can't bring myself to do it. Also, the weight is a bit higher on the F4RT and the gearbox would have to be sequential to fit in the car, so that means an expensive package and an unbalanced weight distribution.

Regarding the 8" wide wheels, I don't think it would require too much work, but as we will fit the front suspension and steering from a Clio, all that combined will make for a much wider car (approx 5cm on each side!) so there will be a lot of work to do to fit all under the arches :)

increase ET could help

clio 3 RS have uge ET also (even with elarge arch) (I read something like 65 but not sur at all)

F4RT will fit with a 225 or 230 gearbox.

It's tight, but it fits. Could also use a 197/200 'box with that engine which is less tight...

Yes it fits, but then it doesn't handle the power very well and quickly gets quite crappy in terms of gear changes precision (Kirfel in Adenau had one fitted to their Twingo for about 2 years and they kept complaining about it. For the new setup, they've brought a big case of cash and fitted a nice brand new Sadev paddle shift sequential gearbox on the thing!!).

the 197/200 does have a reputation for the gearbox internals being made from cheese

Depends on how you use it. All my friends who track their Clios about 10-12 times a year and push them quite hard never had any problems. I guess it's also a question of luck, sometimes you get a good one and sometimes you get a badly fitted together one which will bail on you at the first opportunity :D

At FCS, the guys from ktec said the Twingo GT, Twingo RS, Clio 200 have a good gearbox but the Clio 197 is made out of cheese.
Miss one gear and you can start saving for a new one.

First of 2 laps with my friend's Clio :

The car is a stock Cup chassis with Ferodo brake pads (DS Uno to be precise. they are nice but don't really cope with a complete lap at high speed, clearly not the performance of Carbone Lorraine pads), Scorpion catback exhaust and Federal RSR595 tires (they are supposed to be semi slicks but to be honest they are far behind the Toyo R888 in terms of grip and heat resistance).
That was my second lap ever in that car, with the owner as passenger, and my 3rd lap ever in a Clio RS on semis (I rented one in 2012 on Hankook road tires, it was just awful, and was in the wet...).
At the end of the day, i did my 3rd lap alone in the car actually and had it not been for a yellow flag with tow truck on the last section of the track, I would have managed to clock a quite awesome 8'17" btg laptime!! So next year, I'm getting the keys again, with a harness this time to have less movement in the seat, and some nice R888 on the car in order to drop a below 8'10" laptime

Second filmed lap coming soon, sadly I couldn't film my 3rd lap, really a shame :(

My 197 gearbox is fine with around 50k miles on it.
It is a ***** when cold but fine when it's warmed up a bit. :D

ET is 68 for the clios, but the CUP ones are driving 45 with much camber.

Thanks for the info on the ET :)

Here is my 2nd lap with the Clio. Different passenger, same car, roughly the same laptime because of a yellow flag towards the end :(
